Description
The Maternal/Infant Health Equity Coordinator is a Civil Servant position, funded by grant funds, that reports to the Director of Public Health Programs. The person chosen for this position will be responsible for the implementation of both Fetal and Maternal Mortality Review activities that include facilitating monthly review team meetings; crafting recommendations that will inform system-level policy changes locally, statewide, and nationally; conducting maternal, paternal, or Next of Kin interviews of those who have experienced the loss of a child or experienced the loss of a mother during pregnancy or up to one (1) year after delivery; data collection and data entry; as well as lead an action team (Task Force) to drive implementation of system-level recommendations and establish a grief network
Examples of Duties
- Supervise Nurse Case Abstractors, family support assistants
- Work closely with DHD’s Perinatal Epidemiologist, and review team members to build meaningful recommendations.
- Explores additional case-related information at the community level to identify system failures/gaps.
- Examine and compare vitality data from cases of women with similar pregnancy/birth circumstances as those who have died.
- Facilitate home interviews within established program protocols.
- Conduct community outreach/resource development activities at places where families gather, including shelters, food pantries, community centers, and health clinics.
- Write summary reports of each meeting for the archive.
- Prepare quarterly and annual reports.
- Assure all review team members receive an orientation to the work, including the perpetual use of an equity lens in meetings and case reviews as well as when they collectively make recommendations.
- Assure examination of the impact of structural racism in all cases reviewed.
- Other duties as assigned.
Family Support
- Coordinate health and wellness sessions with clients and provide resources.
- Works closely with Detroit Health Department, Maternal Child Health Staff, community partners, and health systems to develop resources to assist in meeting the needs of participants.
- Provide information and support to coordinate grief support for families impacted by maternal and or infant deaths.
- Works to assist or provide connections for participants who have compounding needs beyond grief.
- Maintains complete written reports of activities and services provided.
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be substituted to meet the education and experience requirement of this position.
EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS TRAINING
- Completion of Emergency Preparedness training to include, but not limited to FEMA ISC 100, 200, 700, and 800 and others as required by department staff
The Maternal/Infant Health Equity Coordinator must be experienced with in-home visiting, community outreach, conducting interviews, and being sensitive to the needs and experiences of grieving families. The candidate should have some knowledge of pregnancy and perinatal issues, experience working with collecting data, and the ability to work independently. Additionally, the applicant must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel).
