Duties and Responsibilities/Essential Functions

The M&P Principal Engineer is responsible for development of aerospace material test plans, procedures, and processes, as well as the execution of testing and data analysis. In this role, you will act as a Subject Matter Expert within the Cirrus Materials & Processes Structures Team, and provide full service and engineering support for all Divisions of Cirrus Aircraft.

  • Subject matter expertise in aviation / aerospace primary and secondary structural adhesives, as well as sealants
  • Knowledge or subject matter expertise in exterior and interior primers, paints, and filler materials
  • Competency in material and process technology readiness level evaluation, selection, and testing, as well as in-depth statistical computation and analysis
  • Write, edit, present, and review Cirrus test plans, reports, and presentations of technical data and content
  • Direct and perform advanced testing on composite, polymeric, elastomeric, and metallic materials
  • Provide engineering expertise, work order planning, and execution of conformity documentation for Part 23 aircraft
  • Support aircraft supply chain, manufacturing, and production, as well as service centers and customer requests
  • Follow all safety standards and policies and ensure a safe operating environment, including use of appropriate protective equipment and identification of potential safety concerns

Qualifications

  • B.S. in Aerospace Engineering, or Materials Science & Engineering from an ABET Accredited University Program
  • Required minimum experience of 14 years at the Principal Engineer Level, 10 years for Staff, or 6 years for Senior
  • Previous experience with aerospace / aviation grade adhesives, sealants, and / or paints in a developmental or testing role is preferred
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in aviation Materials Review Board (MRB) and / or Minor Change Approval is highly desired
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in an R&D to Production, Materials and Process Development Team in the field of aeronautics or astronautics
  • Knowledge of the formulation and optimization of aerospace primary structural adhesives
  • Knowledge of material testing equipment, techniques, data collection and analysis, and statistical evaluation
  • Experience working with a test laboratory and the creation of test documentation and protocol
  • Experience with composite material process creation or optimization using robotics / automation
  • Part 23 General Aviation, Part 25 OEM, or Military Aerospace experience is preferred, but not required
  • Must be able to pass pre-employment drug screen

  • Computer Skills: Proficient in Microsoft office. Minitab, python, MATLAB experience a plus. Creo experience a plus.
  • Process creation / optimization using robotics / automation desired (e.g. ABB RobotStudio, Yaskawa MotionWorks / MotoSim, or similar).
  • Language: Ability to read, write and speak the English language.
  • Quality: High attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Teamwork: Ability to work productively in a team environment; positive attitude and team spirit.
  • Self-Reliance: Ability to work on major, long term projects with limited supervision, and direct interaction with all levels of the organization

  • Dependability: Responsiveness to management direction, and ability to perform on multiple Project Teams simultaneously; Diligence in completing tasks on time or proposing an alternate plan; openness to additional hours when necessary.
