Materials And Inventory Technician

Receives, stores, issues, controls and maintains an adequate inventory of materials, supplies, parts, tools and equipment used in the maintenance and repair of Agency fleet and facilities; updates and maintains the automated inventory management system; and performs related duties as assigned. Perform a variety of manual and clerical duties in the receipt, storage and issuance of materials, supplies, parts, tools and equipment from a central warehouse. Incumbents are responsible for reviewing inventory controls to ensure uninterrupted supply and maintaining accurate, complete and current inventory data. This position will be working Monday-Friday, evenings 3pm-12am or graveyard shifts 12am-9am.

1. Orders, receives, and maintains adequate supply of new and replacement parts, tools, and supplies within established guidelines; performs visual and physical inspection of parts, supplies and equipment for quality, quantity and correctness; may assist in unloading delivery trucks; checks and verifies delivery items received against packing slips and purchase orders; ensures parts match catalog descriptions and manufacturer's identification, model or parts number; returns damaged and incorrect items; places stock in proper warehouse locations; restocks bin locations.
2. Schedules, arranges, and determines the delivery, location, and storage of stock in the warehouse; ensures that all items are properly cared for while in storage.
3. Updates and maintains a comprehensive computerized record keeping system for parts, tools, and supplies in the warehouse for inventory control purposes; data enters information on parts, tools, and supplies received.
4. Conducts cycle counts and periodically inventories stock in warehouse; in conjunction with maintenance supervisors, establishes minimum supply levels on the basis of operational needs.
5. Utilizes parts catalogs, repair manuals and tracking system for parts maintenance and control; maintains supply catalogs; gathers and evaluates data and makes recommendations on purchase of items based on comparative analyses; maintains storage of sample items for approved products committee; maintains up-to-date Materials Safety Data Sheets (MSDS).
6. Maintains warehouse in a clean and orderly condition.
OTHER DUTIES
May assist in yearly activities, including but not limited to: Annual inventory counts, archive storage, annual financial audit, and various community charity events.

Knowledge of:

1. Methods, practices, supplies, tools and equipment used in the maintenance and repair of buses and facilities.
2. Packaging, shipping, receiving, quality assurance inspection, storing, delivery, inventory control and physical inventory practices, procedures, methods and techniques.
3. Material and supply identification and classification methods and procedures.
4. Warehouse work practices and safety, security, health and sanitation procedures relevant to the storage and distribution of materials, supplies and other items purchased and stored by the Agency.
5. Practices, procedures and legal requirements for handling hazardous materials purchased and stored by the Agency.
6. Basic math.
7. Proper lifting techniques.
8. Safety practices and procedures pertaining to the work.
9. Use of computers and specialized software applicable to the work.

Ability to:

1. Implement inventory-control procedures.
2. Properly and safely operate warehouse equipment, such as forklifts, pallet jacks and hand trucks.
3. Accurately inspect incoming shipments and compare to purchase orders.
4. Apply knowledge of Agency fleet and facilities maintenance and repair activities to determine required materials, parts and supplies and anticipating needs.
5. Complete and maintain data, records and forms.
6. Take physical inventory accurately and efficiently.
7. Understand and follow written and oral policies, procedures and instructions.
8. Gather and evaluate data and make logical recommendations based on comparative analyses.
9. Operate a computer and other standard office equipment.
10. Follow safe work practices and procedures, including storage and disposal of hazardous materials.
11. Prepare clear and concise records, reports and other written materials.
12. Exercise independent judgment and initiative within established guidelines.
13. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with Agency managers, staff, vendors, contractors and others encountered in the course of work.

Education: Graduation from high school or GED equivalent; and completion of technical, vocational or college-level coursework in business, accounting or a related field
Licensure: A California Class C driver's license and the ability to maintain insurability under the Agency's insurance policy.
Training: At least one year of experience in public agency materials management or warehousing; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
