Materials and Customer Support Aide - Inter-Library Loan
18.5 hours per week

Nature of Work
This is basic clerical work in the Circulation or Technical Services Division. The Library Aide I performs clerical tasks assigned by the Circulation or Technical Services Division Head or designee, and no supervision of others is required.

The work below is representative of the scope of work performed within this job classification. Individual job duties will vary based on work assignment.
Duties specific to this opening:
*Circulation: Process interLibrary Loans.
  • Retrieve materials requested by other libraries from shelves, and prepare materials for courier delivery using automated interLibrary Loan network system.
  • Sort and process interLibrary Loan materials using automated interLibrary Loan system for lending to patrons or for returning to our library collection.
  • Scan/print/email from microfilm or magazine/newspaper articles.
  • Discharge and deliver materials to the appropriate divisions.
  • Prepare returned interLibrary Loan materials for delivery back to lending libraries.
  • Place interLibrary Loan holds on materials requested by other libraries.
  • Remove outdated holds from other libraries from our holds shelves.
Duties within the Library Aide I Job Classification:
*Provide direct service to the public.
  • Morning pull lists.
  • Retrieve items from magazine room for patrons.
  • Assist library patrons in using microfilm machines and copiers.
*Maintain library collections and bibliographic control.
  • Process library materials including applying labels, book covers, applying and activating RFID tags and other tasks as appropriate.
  • Assist in handling serials claims and circulating magazine processing as directed by Librarian II.
  • Assist with magazine database updates.
  • Withdraw magazines.
  • Change location to magazine room for older issues.
  • Process incoming magazines or newspapers using automated check-in system.
  • Label and file materials in magazine room.
  • Maintain government documents collection.
  • Assist in processing of reference/nonfiction materials using automated catalog system or other databases.
  • Label and weed pamphlets.
  • Pull items on various collection lists.
  • Processing new materials for the shelves.
  • Mend damaged books and other print materials.
  • Assist in creating spine labels.
  • Assist with scanning materials for the archives.
  • Provide assistance in shelving materials as needed.
  • Check to make sure materials are accurately shelved.
*Maintain supplies and organize shelving.
  • Prepare desks and public computer/printer stations with needed supplies.
  • Set up display area and circulating shelves for new library materials.
  • Organize periodical room - date labeling, ordering, and shifting.
Perform other duties as assigned or necessary.
  • Retrieve and sort mail.
  • Pull numbers from carts to be shelved for accuracy tests.
*Essential Job Functions Education and Experience
High School diploma or equivalent GED
AND
Experience with computer software programs and/or interLibrary Loan automated systems.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of: arithmetic, alphabetical and numeric filing organization.
Skill in: attention to detail.
Ability to: try new things; learn and use computer systems; recognize and organize materials in multiple categories; organize and shelve/file items alphabetically and numerically; work and communicate pleasantly and effectively with co-workers and the public; follow verbal and written instructions; work independently; sustain accuracy and work steadily under pressure and/or while performing routine or repetitive tasks.
PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL CRITERIA

If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for Sedentary Work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated for Light Work.

Continuous demands: sitting, handling, fine dexterity, and simultaneous use and repetitive movements of the hands, wrists, and fingers.
Occasional demands: ability to move, lifting, carrying, pushing/pulling, balancing, stooping, kneeling, twisting, bending, and reaching.
Sensory requirements necessary in the performance of the essential functions of this position include: sight, hearing, and touch.
