Job description

SUMMARY

At the Louisville site Walker SCM provides third party logistics services to a variety of clients. The material coordinator role is a critical one for the operation as the role requires a candidate with high self-motivation and attention to detail.

The Material Planner II is responsible for monitoring the amount of inventory at the site, how much more is in transit to arrive soon, and compare that information with customer demand and develop a plant to ensure customer orders are met with the right quality.

The Material Planner II will be working with a group of people at the warehouse but will also be responsible for interacting with remote clients from all over the world to support a variety of ship to’s here in the Kentuckian region to include Ford and GM.

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Operations

  • Analyze inventory levels at warehouse, compare to customer orders and identify shortages.
  • Monitor returnable levels to ensure that there are enough at the warehouse to satisfy customer orders.
  • Review customer orders to set the production targets for each day that ensures all customer requirements are met.
  • Schedule inbound deliveries of material to ensure there are no interruptions to production caused by part shortages.
  • Assist with receiving and shipping activities.
  • Assist with cycle counts, physical inventory and other inventory related activities.
  • Responsible for new part, new supplier, and new customer setups with in the warehouse management system.
  • Assist in special projects as assigned.
  • Assists with training new material coordinators as needed.
  • Assists with managing non-conforming material (material that arrives damaged, rejects from a sort, parts damaged at warehouse, etc)

Documentation

  • Maintain a log of all critical returnables and publish as required.
  • Maintain individual and team metrics for the department.
  • Maintain & publish an inbound and outbound schedule for the department.
  • Complete shipping and receiving documents.
  • Maintain and send part shortage meeting minutes.
  • Maintains records as assigned.
  • Tracks days on hand and warehouse utilization.

Communication

  • Responsible for publish shortage reports to the customer daily.
  • Answers incoming calls/emails into the facility promptly.
  • Interfaces with carriers and sets up pickups/deliveries as needed.
  • Attends QOS meetings as required.
  • Publish inbound/outbound schedules to the team, including hot parts.
  • Publish daily production goals to the team.

Quality

  • Document standard operating procedures and assist with edits and updates to existing SOP’s.
  • Apply continuous improvement ideas and concepts to the department.
  • Understand and adhere to all customer requirements.
  • Comply with internal Quality Management System procedures.
  • Participate in root cause analysis and corrective action processes.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:

General Qualities

  • Clerical: Knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures and systems such as word processing, managing files and records, transcription, designing forms, and other office procedures and terminology. Demonstrated skills in database management and record keeping. Strong computer skills in a Microsoft Windows environment, including Word and Excel. Excellent basic functionality in Excel and Word.
  • Customer and Personal Service: Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
  • English Language: Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language, including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.
  • Ability to operate a forklift is preferred but not required.

Education and Experience

  • High School Diploma or equivalent with at least 2 years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must be able to read, write and comprehend English.
  • Bi-lingual (Spanish) helpful but not required.

PHYSICAL REQUIRMENTS

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds as needed.
  • May require continuous standing, lifting, bending, reaching and stooping throughout each shift.
  • Some assignments may involve continuous repetitive motions.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Warehouse environment
  • Exposure to dust
  • Exposure to a variety of weather conditions (extreme heat, cold, etc.)
  • Noise level can be very loud
