Material Handler Lead

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Material Handler Lead to join our team and oversee the material handling operations at our lumber yard. The Material Handler Lead will play a key role in coordinating and supervising material handling activities, ensuring efficiency, accuracy, and safety within the yard. This position requires strong leadership skills, a deep understanding of lumber yard operations, and a focus on maintaining a positive team environment.

 

 

·        Team Leadership: Supervise and provide guidance to a team of Material Handlers, ensuring they adhere to safety protocols, follow proper procedures, and meet productivity targets.

 

·        Material Handling: Oversee the loading and unloading of lumber products, organizing inventory, and maintaining a clean and organized yard layout to facilitate efficient operations.

 

·        Equipment Operation: Operate forklifts, pallet jacks, and other material handling equipment safely and efficiently, conducting routine maintenance and inspections as needed.

 

·        Quality Control: Implement quality control measures to ensure that lumber products meet quality standards, conducting inspections and addressing any issues or defects as they arise.

 

·        Safety Compliance: Enforce safety policies and procedures, conduct regular safety meetings, and ensure that all Material Handlers are trained in safe work practices to prevent accidents and injuries.

 

·        Communication: Collaborate with other departments, such as sales, purchasing, and logistics, to coordinate material handling activities and support overall yard operations.

 

·        Training and Development: Provide training and development opportunities for material handling team members, helping them develop their skills and advance their careers within the company.

 

·        Customer Interaction: Interface with customers to address return inquiries, resolve issues, and ensure a positive experience throughout the returns process.

 

·        Documentation: Provide accurate, up to date documentation for receiving and inbound KPIs.

·        And any other tasks that are assigned. 

 

 

 

·        Previous experience in a leadership role within a lumber yard or similar environment.

·        Proficiency in operating forklifts and other material handling equipment.

·        Strong knowledge of lumber products, grades, and industry standards.

·        Excellent leadership and communication skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire team members.

·        Attention to detail and the ability to prioritize tasks effectively in a fast-paced environment.

·        Commitment to safety and compliance with relevant regulations.

·        High school diploma or equivalent; additional education or certifications in logistics or related fields are a plus.
