Job Description
The Material Handler will facilitate an array of computer based and manual/physical components of the Company’s shipping and receiving functions in both directing and developing department employees, as well as being accountable for the overall cost effectiveness of these company functions. The SRM also ensures the optimal use of departmental time/resources and human capital in ensuring the expeditious and accurate receipt and processing of items delivered to the Company, as well as those the Company delivers to its customers. In addition to the pursuit of process efficiencies, the SRM is tasked with maximizing cost savings throughout the receiving and shipping processes utilized by the Company.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (include but are not limited to)
• Wrap and package finished goods securely for transport
• Safely lift and move a variety of raw materials and/or finished company products to facilitate transportation to customer sites, both manually and with hand operated moving tools/equipment (including in and out of trucks)
• Receive and examine shipments and compare goods received with records/invoices
• Pack, seal, label, or affix postage to prepare materials for shipping
• Assist the Shipping & Receiving Manager in the preparation of documents, the recording of data, and other shipping/receiving functions as needed
• Complete various other manual/maintenance activities around the shop including Company vehicle upkeep, building crates/boxes, etc.
• Requisition and store shipping supplies to maintain adequate stock levels
• Assist with weekly material cycle counts
• Other duties as assigned by Manager/Company Management
REQUIRED SKILLS/COMPETENCIES (include but are not limited to)
• Proficiency with computers and the MS Office Suite including Excel
• Excellent communication skills, both written and oral
• Detailed, with strong time management and organizational skills
• Basic math skills and the ability to read a tape measure
• Critical thinking/problem solving skills
• The ability to safely operate a forklift (certification provided as needed)
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS (include but are not limited to)
• The ability to safely lift heavy and/or cumbersome objects weighing 50+ lbs.
• Bending/stooping/kneeling, walking and climbing to package/load
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
• High school diploma or equivalent
• 1+ years of relevant work experience
• Demonstrated successful experience working both autonomously and with others in a fast-paced environment, requiring strong attention to detail
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
• 1+ years of experience in Shipping/Receiving or inventor control role in manufacturing
• Experience working with cost accounting software
WORK ENVIRONMENT
• Some mild exposure to saw dust created in product fabrication
• Exposure to the sounds of a variety of shop machinery (saws, etc.)
