Job Description:

Position Summary:

The Master Data Management (MDM) Architect is a key member of the SpartanNash IT architecture team tasked with designing technology solutions in the critical core discipline of Master Data Management. In the SpartanNash context, the ‘classic three’ of Customer, Vendor and Materials are vital to business operations and the reporting and analytics work done by the Business Intelligence team. The MDM Architect plays a critical role in managing the long-term technology roadmap for MDM, driving a convergence strategy for the myriad platforms that manages Master Data today. Technology is also a key component of data entry and maintenance operations, and the MDM Architect is responsible for the technology that allows the MDM team to enter, validate, reference-check, de-duplicate and audit Master Data effectively and efficiently.

Here's what you'll do:

  • Accountability for the technology and technical solutions for managing Master Data, including collecting, aggregating, matching, consolidating, quality-assuring, persisting and distributing such data throughout the organization with the goal of ensuring consistency, accuracy and control.

  • Manage the technology stack for ongoing creation and maintenance of Master Data, driving continuous improvement thinking for how technology can improve the efficiency and accuracy of data maintenance.

  • Develop an MDM architecture direction, bringing strategic thinking to defining the long-term MDM design such as a registry, consolidation, coexistence or transaction approach to MDM. Develop a roadmap for how the MDM architecture will evolve.

  • Work closely with MDM business analysts and the MDM Center-of-Excellence to develop knowledge and understanding of how Master Data is used by the organization, particularly for Customer, Vendor and Material masters to identify opportunities for improvement. Build insights into reference data objects over time.

  • Manage product roadmap planning and technology recommendations.

  • Develop the technical solution that takes the current decentralized Master Data objects managed through multiple platforms and systems into a structure with a Golden record and a single source of truth.

  • Translate the strategy roadmap into tactical phases for delivery. Coordinate with architecture functions across the enterprise such as in the Business Intelligence or Supply Chain IT teams to align on MDM strategy, approach and steps. Ensure cohesiveness of MDM strategy with overall IT strategy.

  • Provide architectural and design input to projects that tap on Master Data. Actively participate in the Applications Design Authority (ADA) to provide insights into change impact, risks and opportunities.

  • Actively participate in projects as part of the project delivery organization where there are significant changes to MDM as a result of major initiatives.

  • Define metrics and KPIs to measure ongoing efficiency and effectiveness of MDM process and operations.

Here's what you'll need:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or management information systems or related business degree.

  • At least two cycles of MDM solution design, development and implementation.

  • 10+ years of experience as an IT professional in the area of Master Data Management, data analysis or data architecture.

  • Ability to articulate ideas and strategy to both technical and non-technical audience.

  • Up-to-date experience with MDM technologies and tools

  • Experience in supply chain management will be a plus.
