FreshDirect is currently seeking an experienced Butcher to work in our Meat Department with a minimum of 5 years of experience.
Responsibilities and Working Conditions:

• Aid management in troubleshooting problems
• Works on assigned projects when needed
• Estimate the quantifiable characteristics of products, events or information- Estimating sizes, distances, and Quantities; or determining time, costs, resources, or materials needed to perform a work activity.
• Maintain clean, safe, and organized work environment
• Estimate requirements and order of requisition meat supplies to maintain inventories
• Operates various meat department equipment and reports malfunctioning equipment for corrective action
• Request necessary product from replenishment team before running out completely
• Use processing machines (ground beef and sausage) and fabricating machines saws and packing machines
• Cut, trim, scrape and boat various cuts of meat or poultry
• Prepare special cuts of meats ordered by customers
• Shape, lace and tie roasts, using boning knife, skewer and twine
• Prepare marinated value-added items, and prepared foods
• Will be responsible for other assigned duties
• Prepare special cuts of meats ordered by customers
• Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
• In a workday: standing/walking 6-10 hours or more
• Hand use: single grasping, fine manipulation, pushing and pulling
• Work requires the following motions: bending, twisting, squatting and reaching
• Exposure to FDA approved cleaning chemicals, loud noises, flashing lights
• Constant exposure to temperatures: <-10 degrees Fahrenheit (freezing), 32-40 degrees Fahrenheit (refrigerators)
• Ability to work in a wet and cold environment
• Ability to work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed
• Ability to use tools and equipment, including box cutters, electric pallet jacks, and other heavy machinery
• Ability to work in other areas of the business as needed

Education and Qualifications:

• Expert Knowledgewith retail cuts from all different categories, species: beef/pork/veal/ lamb/gamebirds
• Apply knowledge of processes involved, production methods, and products to the nuances of everyday operation
• Recognize various cuts, sizes and species of Meat (Middle Meats/ Leg Meats, Belly Meats)
• Ability to read production screens and produce various cuts of meat for retail trade with little to no direction
• Use knives and other tools of the trade
• Must have 5 years' experience using band saw and other power equipment used in the trade- grinders, pinners, Meat Cube Cutting Machine,
• Knowledge of assembly and disassembly of band saw
• Ability to clearly communicate in English. Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus
• Must be willing to work overnights, early morning hours and weekends (Weekends include Friday, Saturday, Sunday)
• Ability to work in support of the meat team.
• Competent in following oral and written instructions.
• Understand production equipment care are operation
• Writes clearly and informatively. Is able to read and interpret written information.
• Demonstrates accuracy and thoroughness
• Follows policies and procedures and accepts responsibility for own actions.
• Uses time effectively and efficiently.
• Meets productivity standards. Completes work in timely manner.

Note: The salary/hourly range for this role is from $23.00 to $23.00. Specific compensation for the role may vary based on many factors including but not limited to candidate experience, and skills.
