Summary:
U.S. Marine Corps Special Operations Command (MARSOC) has a requirement for language, regional expertise, and culture (LREC) training. The instructors shall provide relevant language and culture training to accomplish the terminal learning objectives provided by the Government (GOVT). By the end of the training, all students will have sustained or increased their current language capability and will be prepared to re-test the dual-modality OPI. Students' current proficiency level ratings vary from 0+/0+ to 2/2. This includes the development of speaking, listening, reading, and writing communicative competence in general and military topics. The effectiveness of language instruction is measured by the Interagency Language Roundtable (ILR) scores achieved on the DLPT and/or OPI.
Specific duties may include, but are not limited to:
Assist in the management of all aspects of the unit foreign LREC training that enhances the effectiveness of the MRR's Sustainment and Enhancement LREC training program.
Develop daily lesson plans, take attendance, make daily annotations of student's learning and behavior progress or lack of, assess students' speaking abilities using OPI rubric.
Develop, review, correct, and grade daily homework, discuss and provide weekly feedback with MRR CLPM for weekly assessment/quiz.
Review, distribute and grade weekly assessment/quiz.
Maintain a positive and professional learning environment, and address student behavior/attendance concerns with Site Lead.
Required Qualifications:
At least 2 years of recent (completed within the last 18 months) experience teaching foreign language at the secondary level or higher (a minimum of 200 classroom hours) and a bachelor's degree in teaching, education, language, or a closely related field to be approved by Government.
OR
At least 6 years of recent (completed within the last 18 months), related experience teaching at the secondary level or higher (a minimum of 600 classroom hours) and a bachelor's degree in any field.
English Language Qualifications:
Completed formal study of the English Language and achieved the score indicated on any of the below:
1) At least proficiency level 2 as measured by the Test of English as a Foreign Language.
2) A score of no less than 79 on the English Comprehension Level (ECL) test.
3) At least a proficiency level 2 or Advanced-Low (ACTFL) on an OPI.
Target Language Qualifications:
Language Instructor will possess general professional proficiency (a language rating of ILR level 2+ or ACTFL Advanced-High) or higher in the specified foreign language.
Proficiency will be demonstrated by one of the following:
1) Oral Proficiency Interview (OPI) or 2-skill OPI from the DLIFLC.
2) An interview certified by the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL).
3) Defense Language Proficiency Test.
Clearance: Must pass NAC Background Check
