Description
This position is part of the marketing and communications team for the Central Indiana Community Foundation philanthropic collaborative. The team serves as an in-house "agency" for members of the collaborative, providing marketing and communications strategy and execution to best tell the stories of our organizations and the communities they serve.
The best stories inspire us to do/be/imagine/aspire to more. By helping to connect our heads and our hearts, stories help create empathy and give us the courage to reimagine our world. The Marketing Publications Specialist works closely with the partners of the Philanthropic Collaborative to identify and elevate stories about the initiatives and partnerships with external audiences, including community members, members of the media, donors, nonprofits, and more.
Insatiably curious and observant, the Marketing Publications Specialist will collect and relate the compelling and insightful stories of our partners-the advisors, community members, donors, and nonprofit partners advancing the work of economic opportunity in Marion and Hamilton counties. Working in tandem with other members of the CICF Marketing and Communications team, this storyteller will create and share compelling content that engages and builds trust with our target audiences across multiple platforms, driving brand awareness and engagement.

  • Serve as the lead writer for the organization.
  • Creatively and innovatively tell stories that demonstrate the work of Philanthropic partners and their impact on the communities they serve.
  • Write compelling community blog posts.
  • Work with executive leaders to write thought leadership for audiences ranging from investors to members of the community.
  • Assemble press releases highlighting grant announcements, new projects, and other news from the philanthropic collaborative.
  • Use basic design and photography skills to tell a complete story from all angles.
  • Pair stories with imagery by designing graphics or taking photos.
  • Attend events and offsite projects to write recaps and take photos.
  • Craft language for reports and collateral that share the complex work of the philanthropic collaborative.
  • Develop event descriptions.
  • Pursue stories assigned by the Director of Marketing and identify additional stories through work with peers in Philanthropy, Community Leadership, and Donor Engagement.
  • Develop timelines to reach goals.
  • Report regularly to the Marketing Director.
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements
  • A versatile writer who can comprehend complex business and financial language and translate it into a variety of mediums with a variety of audiences.
  • Proven ability to craft stories that captivate readers, evoke emotion and inspire action.
  • Basic photography and photo editing skills.
  • Intermediate design skills - experience using Canva is a plus.
  • Ability to provide premier client service-responsive, deadline-driven, proactive, and innovative.
  • Ability to work across departments and incorporate and balance objectives of each department to manage and produce strategic, compelling stories.
  • Stellar writing and interviewing skills; able to ask effective questions and develop rapport/trust with story subjects.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
  • The position requires some evenings and weekends to attend events.
  • Ability to interact diplomatically with all levels of the organization, community, and outside vendors; excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • The candidate must have a deep desire for service to humanity, a keen understanding of equity, and an understanding of how effective storytelling can help our key audiences better understand equity, the challenges facing our region, and the Foundation's work to address those challenges.
  • Familiarity with Associated Press style.
  • Experience in fundraising communications and/or nonprofit work is a plus.
  • Experience (preferred five years or more) in journalism, PR, marketing, or a related field is a plus.

WORKING CONDITIONS: Flexible hybrid office environment (in office three days a week).
EQUAL EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY EMPLOYMENT:
Central Indiana Community Foundation, The Indianapolis Foundation, Hamilton County Community Foundation and Women's Fund of Central Indiana are equal opportunity employers that seek to recruit persons of diverse backgrounds and to support their retention and advancement. Justice is one of our core values, and we are committed to fostering a workplace culture inclusive of people with respect to their race, ethnicity, national origin, gender/gender identity, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status, veteran status, marital status, age, disabilities, political affiliation, religious beliefs or any other characteristic. Our commitment to justice and diversity also means providing a work environment that is welcoming, respectful, and engaging.
Our mission is to mobilize people, ideas and investments to make Central Indiana a community where all individuals have equitable opportunity to reach their full potential-no matter place, race or identity.
Racism deeply impacts the well-being of our communities, compounding existing disparities and creating intersectional barriers. We strive to name and address these barriers through community engagement and assessment, relevant and effective policy creation, and organizational accountability methods. We support initiatives that address all forms of oppression, however, maintaining an explicit focus on race is essential to advancing equity across our communities. Improving outcomes for people of color will improve outcomes for everyone.
