The Role:
Backstage is seeking a Marketing Director to oversee the company’s growth marketing strategies to drive customer acquisition and engagement. In this role, you will be leading cross-functional teams to develop and execute campaigns, optimize conversion funnels, and analyze and measure results. Our current team consists of 13 creative marketers specializing in growth, social, demand gen, email, design, and conversion rate optimization.

As our Marketing Director, you will be directing department-wide projects, requiring meticulous planning, execution, and tracking of marketing projects to meet strategic objectives. You must be an excellent leader with proven experience supporting collaboration, allocating resources, managing budgets, and delivering projects on time with measurable results. Your success in this role will be determined by the overall success of campaigns against the roadmap objectives, your ability to leverage and develop the skills of our team, and your depth of expertise as a growth marketer.
The Marketing Director will report to our VP of Marketing.
What You’ll Do:
- Work closely with the VP of Marketing to lead the company’s growth marketing strategy
- Lead and manage a team of growth marketers, including 6 direct reports; provide mentorship, coaching, and professional development opportunities
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Product, Design, Engineering, Sales, etc.) to develop and execute campaigns that drive customer acquisition and engagement
- Optimize conversion funnels through A/B testing, personalization, and other techniques
- Develop and manage a growth marketing budget and track and report on campaign performance
- Interpret and leverage customer behavior data to optimize marketing efforts; use insights to craft high-impact growth strategies across all parts of the funnel
- Collaborate with external partners and agencies to develop and execute marketing campaigns
- Stay up-to-date with industry trends and best practices, and provide thought leadership on growth marketing
What we’re looking for from you:
- Expertise in growth marketing; able to ideate and drive campaign strategy across marketing functions to meet business objectives
- Excellent leadership skills, with proven experience managing teams and cross-functional projects
- Prior experience directing paid acquisition strategy, evaluating results and adjusting audiences and/or content to meet the ever-changing nature of major advertising platforms and social media
- Deep understanding of customer segmentation and strategizing effective communication and positioning for each unique segment
- Strong analytical skills, including advanced proficiency with Google Analytics 4 and Amplitude (or analogous platform); experience using data to drive decision-making
- Technical acuity with BI platforms such as Looker and/or Tableau
- Familiarity with attribution platforms for iOS
- Good communicator, great collaborator, and team member
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex concepts to a variety of audiences
- Exceptional project management skills; able to create roadmaps, drive consensus, allocate budget and resources, and deliver projects on time
- Proven ability to solve complex challenges
- Passion for driving customer growth and a deep understanding of customer acquisition and engagement strategies
- Advanced proficiency with Excel and/or Google Sheets
- Experience with Notion a plus
