Our Exciting Opportunity!
We are looking for a Market Area Privacy Director to lead and guide the global privacy strategy through its program in Market Area North America in alignment with Market Area compliance officers, privacy officers, security officers, legal counsels, and other stakeholders. As an experienced privacy counsel, you will provide privacy legal advice on critical matters impacting our North American Market Area, acquired affiliates and Business Areas with substantial operations in North America. You will translate relevant regulations, and industry privacy standards into policy, guidance, tools, best practices; and advice on contractual clauses, privacy impact assessments, incident handling, data subject access requests and records of processing activities.
This role reports directly to the Group Head of Privacy/Chief Privacy Officer, with an ideal location in Plano, Texas, and is open to Remote applicants within the United States.
What you will do
  • Maintain a sound understanding of Ericsson's business activities and applicable laws/regulations in the Market Area
  • Monitor, track and asses the rapidly evolving landscape of relevant privacy laws and regulation, as well as industry approaches to privacy program management
  • Provide legal and operational guidance and advice on privacy-related matters for the Market Area/Business Areas and collaborate to assess and implement the privacy compliance program, including providing requirements for new data uses, new market entry, cross-border data transfers, data subject rights, incident preparedness and response and privacy risk management
  • Partner with other in-house counsels, e.g. to provide privacy support for commercial agreements, including drafting and negotiating privacy-related contract terms
  • Ensure that the privacy strategy and policy requirements across Ericsson have been adequately implemented
  • Recognize emerging privacy issues and trends and provide advice on topics such as data analytics, cloud, IoT, SaaS, and other technologies
  • Coordinate ongoing activities as well as performing internal reviews/assessments to monitor the effectiveness of the program and alignment with internal stakeholders to ensure compliance with applicable law, internal policies, and contractual requirements.
  • Establish and administer a process for receiving, documenting, tracking, investigating, and taking action on all complaints concerning privacy policies and procedures.
  • Cooperate with the stakeholders, authorities, other legal entities, and organizational executive officers in any privacy compliance reviews or investigations
  • Provide regular updates to management teams and other stakeholders regarding privacy and implementation of the privacy compliance program
  • Proactively conduct and ensure appropriate monitoring of privacy trainings and awareness; developing a culture of privacy compliance
  • Maintain documentation of compliant, timely and practical advice.
  • Instruct and manage outside counsel, as necessary

You will bring
  • A minimum of 10 years working experience as a business lawyer with substantive privacy and security experience
  • Substantial knowledge of privacy regulations, industry standards and best practices in North America, knowledge of the EU General Data Protection Regulation - with a curiosity about data and cyber security
  • Good business knowledge/understanding
  • Ability to independently handle and manage legal matters and prioritize conflicting demands from multiple business clients in an extremely fast-paced environment.
  • Experience negotiating, drafting, and updating privacy and security-related contract terms, notices, and other documentation
  • A high level of integrity and strong analytical and communication skills
  • A willingness to be a team player who initiates and inspires changes
  • Solid understanding and interest in new technologies
  • Fluency in English, second language desirable
  • Independence, goal-oriented and a systematic way of working
  • Willingness to travel up to 10%

Your Pay
The salary range for this position is listed below. The actual salary offered is dependent on various factors including, but not limited to, location, the candidate's combination of job-related knowledge, qualifications, skills, education, training, and experience.
$176,800 - $265,200
Your pay also includes the opportunity for an annual bonus. Actual bonus payouts are based on performance of the business against the unit's objectives, individual performance, and the individual bonus target. Certain eligibility and pro-ration rules apply.

Ericsson offers excellent health benefits including the choice of 3 medical plan options, 2 of which are PPO plans requiring employee contributions to the cost of premiums, and a High Deductible Health Plan (HDHP) with no premiums for employees and dependents. In addition, Ericsson offers free dental coverage, employee paid vision coverage, and other company paid physical wellness programs.
Your Financial Security
We invest in both your short and long-term financial wellbeing. Ericsson's 401(k) plan offers an automatic 3%company contribution and up to a 4% company match, leading to a maximum company contribution of 7% annually. Employees will also receive company paid basic life and accidental death and dismemberment coverage and paid company short-term and long-term disability benefits. Employees also have the option to participate in Ericsson's Stock Purchase Plan.
Your Time
Your work-life balance is important to us. New employees are provided up to 40 days of paid time off per year, including 15 days of accrued annual vacation, 3 personal days, 11 paid holidays, 10 sick days, and 1volunteer day. Please note paid time off is pro-rated based on the employee's start date. Those with additional vacation time at the end of the year may sell one week of vacation, equal to a week of pay. Furthermore, Ericsson provides up to 16 weeks of maternity/medical leave, 6 weeks of paternity or adoption leave at 100% of pay, and medical leave at 100% or 66 2/3% of pay, based on length of service.
