Marine Scientist and Regulatory Specialist, USA

Advisian is a leading provider of Environment and Society (E&S) services in the US. The US E&S Service Line is a vibrant and growing team covering: Environmental Science (including marine, atmospherics, terrestrial, and aquatics); Society & Engagement; Planning, Permits & Approvals; and Sustainability & Compliance. We provide a full range of environmental services with a strong reputation for technical excellence, innovation and quality of work within small project consulting and strategic advisory assignments through to large project engineering and construction management delivery.
We have an exciting new opportunity for an exceptional mid-to-senior level candidate to be part of the USA Environment and Society (E&S) team to help serve our clients in the Offshore Energy Sector. The position can be based anywhere in the United States and its territories. You will have responsibilities for providing as-needed on-call expertise in marine science and U.S. regulation with emphasis on marine fauna, commercial fisheries, Endangered Species Act, Marine Mammal Protection Act, National Environmental Policy Act, and other relevant statutes. Experience preparing scientific report, permit applications, biological models, and/or environmental assessments and similar documents is desired. Programming and/or GIS skills are also a plus.
Primary Objectives and Accountabilities of the Role
  • Support Advisian's strategic initiative in the Offshore Energy sector by providing on-the-ground regulatory and scientific advice and leadership at a mid-to-senior level.
  • Be available to interact as needed with the broader Worley Group team to provide comprehensive environmental, engineering and operational support to marine and coastal energy clients.
  • Provide technical expertise as needed for proposals and project implementation for offshore energy and other Advisian offshore initiatives.
  • Provide QA/QC and expert review of documents and analyses for permits, NEPA assessments, and other environmental compliance for offshore projects as needed.
  • Support statistical analyses and modeling exercises to meet U.S. marine statutory needs.
  • Provide specialty capabilities to supplement and complement Advisian offshore specialists as needed.

Essential Qualifications and Skills
  1. Master's degree in marine biology, environmental science, environmental planning, or equivalent
  2. 5+ years of professional experience, preferably with an environmental consulting organization, energy developer, or state/federal regulator
  3. Demonstrated commitment to HSE leadership
  4. Expert knowledge in the environmental and Regulatory issues associated with offshore energy
  5. Subject matter expertise in a marine science focus, such as marine acoustics, marine mammals, sea turtles, fisheries, seabird biology, impact assessment, mitigation/monitoring planning required
  6. Experience with NEPA, other U.S. marine statutes, and/or state equivalent environmental laws
  7. Excellent client interfacing skills
  8. Track record of production of work packages to meet agreed budget and schedule
  9. Technical writing and reporting prowess
  10. Experience in preparation of proposals, budget estimates and schedules for projects / work packages preferred
  11. Experience with standard statistical packages, such as R and Matlab, and/or GIS software is a plus.
