Job Summary
The Marine Repair Mechanic is a skilled manufacturing position that is responsible for the repair of aluminum and fiberglass boats for the USCG and Navy, as well as other government and commercial customers. This is position is responsible for ensuring that all technical parts are correctly installed and comply with the regulatory specs to successfully support the continued use of the boat.

Responsibilities

  • Install, maintain and trouble shoot advanced 12 volt/110 electrical systems. The ability to apply that knowledge to existing electrical circuitry as well as install new, complete systems.
  • Installation and service of electrical components found on board small patrol craft and work boats - including lighting, electronics, pumps, wash down systems, etc.
  • Ability to understand electrical schematics, fabricate and install wiring harnesses to ABYC Standards.
  • Installation and service of hydraulic steering systems and controls, including installation of hydraulic systems and pumps for various onboard vessel features.
  • Ability to layout and install hardware from bow to stern on new blank hulls and superstructures to include all equipment and systems found on small craft under 40 feet.
  • The ability to read and/or create accurate wiring schematics and to diagnose and repair problems in existing systems.
  • Install, maintain and trouble shoot mechanical drive systems.
  • Install, maintain and trouble shoot marine specific components.
  • Assemble, install, maintain, and repair various mechanical systems such as diesel engines to drivelines, hydraulic systems and lighting.
  • Service and repair various systems such as propulsion machinery, propellers, rudders, cargo handling machinery, lifeboat davits, and anchor handling gear.
  • Follow an installation diagram including various measurements, torques and other values/calculations.
  • Analyze engineering drawings, blueprints, specifications, sketches, work orders, and material safety data sheets to plan layout, assembly, repair, and operations.
  • Maintains all safety standards.
  • Operate safety equipment and use safe work habits.
  • Operates a wide variety of handheld and power-assisted tools and production fixtures.
  • Ensures quality and accuracy of their work.
  • Reports issues to supervisor or to team lead and works on troubleshooting and identifying failures and potential failures.
  • Responsible for assessing conditions of the boat and its components as well as conducting operational testing and quality inspections.
  • Positions and secures parts, using hoist, crane, wire and banding machine, or hand tools.
  • Transports boat using company provided vehicle to pick up and deliver boats to and from client locations around the continental US.
  • Must be able to launch and recover boats for testing and evaluation.
  • Performs other duties as assigned that support the overall objective of the position.

  • Knowledge in standard build practices in comparable manufacturing environments
  • Strong mechanical background and familiarity in a wide variety of tools used in the assembly process and apply them safely to complete installations.

  • Effectively communicate to supervisor and manager
  • Adheres to all procedures and safe work practices

  • Aluminum welding skills are beneficial, but not required

Qualifications

  • High School Degree, GED or equivalent required
  • Applicants with prior technician experience in the maritime industry preferred
  • Applicants with certificate or degree in Marine Technician, Automotive Technician, or Industrial Maintenance Technician or equivalent experience preferred
  • Must be able to pass a background check.
  • Must be able to pass drug and alcohol screens.
  • Ability to obtain a driver's license and have a clean driving record.
  • Ability to operate a boat and trailer towing skills.
  • Ability to obtain a state boat operators license.
  • Ability to obtain a passport.

Physical requirements

Position requires grasping, writing, standing, sitting, walking, kneeling, crawling, repetitive motions, bending, climbing, listening and hearing ability and visual acuity. Must be able to work in tight spaces and awkward positions for long periods of time. Must be able to conduct inside and outside work in all temperatures. Use of manufacturing equipment. Work in areas at times that are not environmentally controlled. Able to move/lift/pull/push 50 lbs. Ability to get underway with high speed watercraft in variable weather conditions. Must be able to obtain a driver license with trailer use. Must be able to travel as required, with travel occurring up to 25% of the time, including travel outside of the Continental United States.
