Duties

  • You will safely operate a forklift to access and service MARINE MACHINERY and equipment in the proper position and location.
  • You will assist in the repair and maintenance of marine gas and diesel inboard and outboard engines, marine crafts and boats, and trailers.
  • You will disassemble, assemble, and repair the simpler components and assemblies of MARINE MACHINERY.
  • You will safely operate a forklift, hand truck, pallet jack, or other material handling equipment to gather items for shipment.

  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • You will be required to posses and maintain a current valid United States driver’s license.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid forklift license up to 10 tons within the first six months of employment.
  • Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • You will be required to complete Shore Installation Management Basic Boat Coxswain (SIMBBC) and Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) courses and applicable PQS.
  • You will be required to complete Personal Qualification Standards requirements (PQS) as assigned by the Region Program Manager to include Maintenance and Material Management (3M) and Lock-out/Tagout qualifications.
  • You will be required to become Facility Response team (FRT) qualified.
  • Complete all standard oil spill response training as required by 29 CFR 1910.120.

Qualifications

Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.
Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the job elements and screen out listed below. The work requires a practical knowledge of the mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems and components of diverse MARINE MACHINERY and their attachments.
This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible. The Screen-out Element for this position is: THE ABILITY TO DO THE JOB OF A MARINE MACHINE MECHANIC HELPER (FORKLIFT OPERATIOR) WITHOUT MORE THAN NORMAL SUPERVISION INCLUDING: 1) Ability to demonstrate reliability and dependability; 2) Identifying and utilizing marine tools and equipment; 3) General skills assisting in maintenance and repair of MARINE MACHINERY and associated tools and equipment; and 4) Operating forklifts in order to load and unload shipments.
