Job Title: Manufacturing/Procurement Engineer

Job Description

Orbex Group has been a worldwide industry-leading electric motor and slip ring supplier based in Austin, Texas. We have international and domestic slip ring and motor manufacturing facilities to supply our global customers with the best products at the best prices.

Due to great growth in the current economic climate, Orbex Group is seeking an experienced Manufacturing/Procurement Engineer ensuring the highest level of quality in our manufacturing processes and supporting the technical performance of our suppliers. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to identify and resolve quality and design issues, implement quality/process improvement initiatives, and ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in manufacturing and design engineering, a solid understanding of manufacturing processes, and experience in supply chain/procurement.

Due to the nature of this role, candidates must be able and willing to work hybrid onsite/remote with 10-25% travel both domestic and international. Candidates will be interacting regularly with team members and business partners to ensure we meet quality needs while developing high performance products.

Objectives of this Role

  • Collaborate with the manufacturing teams and suppliers to establish and maintain robust quality control processes and standards for all manufacturing operations.
  • Conduct regular audits and inspections of manufacturing processes, equipment, and products to identify areas for improvement and ensure compliance with best manufacturing practices and quality standards.
  • Investigate and analyze quality issues, defects, and non-conformances, and work with teams to implement effective corrective and preventive actions to eliminate root causes and prevent recurrence.
  • Support design and develop activities to ensure efficient practices can be used and manufacturability requirements are met.
  • Develop and maintain manufacturing documentation, including work instructions, tooling, and manufacturing records.
  • Lead or participate in cross-functional teams to drive continuous improvement initiatives, such as lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, and process optimization.
  • Conduct statistical analysis and use quality tools to analyze data, monitor process performance, and drive data-driven decision-making.
  • Works with international partners to ensure customer needs are being met with high quality solutions

Daily and Monthly Responsibilities

· Products are manufactured to Orbex design requirements

· New product introduction leader for manufacturing

· Product performance and failure analysis of new and current products

· Supplier and manufacturing quality development, review, and communication

· Day to day manufacturing/supplier quality support

Skills and Qualifications

· Bachelor’s in engineering field or equivalent experience in related field.

· 4-7 years of relevant professional experience in various roles such as procurement/supply chain, value engineering and/or Manufacturing engineering

· Strong knowledge of manufacturing principles, quality control methodologies, and quality improvement tools (e.g., Six Sigma, Lean, FMEA, SPC, root cause analysis).

· Can work autonomously with little or no direction while meeting predefined goals

· Ability to communicate succinctly with leadership in a variety of topics

· Experience working with foreign suppliers on complex quality and technical topics

· Familiarity with industry standards and regulations (e.g., ISO 9001, AS9100, IATF 16949)

· Strong understanding of Geometric Design and Tolerancing (GD&T) along with 2D prints and 3D CAD models.

· Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to analyze complex issues, identify root causes, and implement effective corrective actions.

· Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and communicate technical information to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications

· Proficient in using 2D and 3D CAD software

· Proficient Microsoft applications (Office 365 Suite)

· Experience working in the motor and motion control industry with good understanding of motors is a must.

Pay: $80,000.00 - $90,000.00 per year
