Job Summary:
At Caterpillar’s South Milwaukee, WI facility, we manufacture Electric Rope Shovels for mining operations. In this role as a Manufacturing Weld Engineer, you will report to the Group Manager and will be primarily responsible for working both independently and as part of a team to maintain and improve processes and systems used in manufacturing. In addition, Manufacturing Weld Engineers function as a specialist and subject matter expert for technical planning throughout the manufacturing facility. As a member of the Manufacturing team, you will need to have a growth mindset, promote continuous improvement, and help build a defect-free culture. What you will do:
Analyze requirements and make recommendations for facility systems, processes, training, equipment needs, and engineering product designs
Complete both specialized and broad-based assignments / projects which may require collaboration and integration with other functions
Evaluate projects and prepare feasibility studies to define desired results, assess value proposition and determine project plans
Analyze, provide specifications, and acquire new or replacement equipment
Perform capital forecasting correlation and reporting as it relates to new product introduction, product capacity increases, equipment replacement and continuous process improvement
Improve Value Stream metrics by defining and implementing process improvement activities
Identify Root Causes and implement Corrective Actions to address Safety, Quality, Velocity, and Cost opportunities identified through projects, CI Cards, or CPI/BIQ issues
Improve space utilization in manufacturing and office spaces
Develop and implement assembly processes in line with Caterpillar standard processes

Manufacturing Processes : Knowledge of existing product manufacturing methods, technologies and processes; ability to execute, plan, manage and monitor the entire manufacturing process.
Level Working Knowledge:
• Assesses associated phases, activities, deliverables and processes.
• Documents relevant standards, policies and practices.
• Follows standard manufacturing processes to conduct production activities.
• Researches new technologies to be integrated into existing manufacturing process.
• Explains tools, techniques and documents used for process monitoring and control.
Manufacturing Safety : Knowledge of manufacturing safety; ability to identify work-related hazards and perform necessary activities to meet regulatory requirements for the safety and protection of workers, environment and site.
Level Working Knowledge:
• Conducts daily maintenance and keeps tracking logs on safety equipment.
• Responds to first aid and accident situations following standard procedures.
• Inspects manufacturing working environment to find safety violations within a specific area.
• Utilizes personal protective equipment required or recommended for manufacturing staff.
• Determines appropriate action to take when unsafe conditions are encountered.
Manufacturing Standards, Procedures and Policies : Knowledge of organizational standards, procedures and policies in manufacturing activities; ability to plan, guide, and monitor manufacturing processes for compliance.
Level Working Knowledge:
• Contributes to the development and implementation of specific manufacturing procedures.
• Investigates the need to refer potential exceptions upward for review and approval.
• Explains the rationale for procedures and standards in own area of responsibility.
• Participates in the implementation of manufacturing standards and procedures to one's own function.
• Provides feedback for improvement of procedures.
Education and Experience requirement:
Associates degree in Welding or Engineering
2+ years of manufacturing engineering experience
2+ years of welding experience
In lieu of a degree, 5+ years of experience working in a manufacturing environment with experience creating visual aids standard work and routings

The primary location for this position is S. Milwaukee, WI
