Summary:
- The Manufacturing Technician continuously monitors and analyzes the methods by which molded urethane samples and products are manufactured.
- Assist with planning, conducting, and leading chemical processing activities. Install troubleshoot and repair maintenance systems and equipment.
- Diagnoses problems, repairs, adjusts, and maintains production equipment and machinery to ensure reliability and efficient day-to-day operations.
- Tests and inspects parts regularly, and identifies issues.
- Takes preventive measures to avoid unexpected downtime.
- University degree and 1 year suggested minimum experience, or 2-year degree and 6 years suggested minimum experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Read and understand documents/spreadsheets communicating laboratory schedule and sample pouring work needed.
- Review, revise, and/or create standard operating procedures to maintain capable performance of laboratory manufacturing equipment.
- Lead activities to conduct annual equipment capability studies.
- Maintain knowledge of all machine capabilities and raw material characteristics.
- Determine the most efficient and effective combination of material, process and machine to produce molded urethane parts.
- Recommend changes to the manufacturing processes methods and procedures to upgrade quality and quantity of products and/or line operating efficiencies.
- Conducts evaluation of new materials, formulations, and/or processes.
- Manage incoming raw material inventory, testing and tracking of certificates of analysis.
- Maintain 5S and housekeeping in the lab area daily.
- Manage tank farm area in UTC lab including batching of chemical per request.
- Follow all lab safety practices, abide by all EH&S requirements.
- Must be able to lift and move objects up to 75 pounds consistently with heavier weight necessary at times.
- Perform simple machinist duties and responsibilities.
- Perform mechanic skills including, but not limited to, mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, troubleshooting and repair of production machines.
- Read and interpret equipment manuals and work orders to perform required maintenance and service.
- Diagnose problems, replace, or repair parts, test and make adjustments.
- Perform regular preventative maintenance on machines, equipment, and plant facilities.
- Use a variety of hand and power tools, electric meters and material handling equipment in performing duties.
- Detect faulty operations, defective material, and report those and any unusual situations to proper supervision.
- Perform Mold Change activities on all lines.
- Perform other duties deemed necessary by the UTC Manager
Education Required & Preferred:
- Requires a high school diploma/GED.
- Experience in Industrial Maintenance preferred, or an equivalent number of years of education and process and/or maintenance experience.
Experience Required & Preferred:
- One to two years of experience in maintenance, and/or processing.
- Experience with the maintenance of urethane foam equipment and/or manufacture of urethane foam or closely related fields is preferred.
Language Skills:
- Possess the ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, tooling guidelines, and procedure manuals. Candidate needs to possess the ability to effectively communicate in oral and written form.
Mathematical Skills:
- Add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
Reasoning Ability:
- Possess ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
Other Skills and Abilities:
- Candidate must be computer literate and familiar with appropriate software programs. Must possess the ability to create visual aids for communication purposes. Dexterity and preciseness are required to operate gauges and testing equipment. Possess the ability to read part drawings. Some experience with statistical process control and Computers.
