What we do:
The Manufacturing Specialist will work closely with a team of battery manufacturing technicians and engineers. They are responsible for designing and developing processes and creating organizational tools to build battery modules. The Manufacturing Specialist's daily activities will include assembling battery modules and fixtures, creating work instructions, owning manufacturing orders, and training technicians on new equipment and processes. This opportunity will involve hands-on, fast-paced work within a growing team that shares a passion for revolutionizing the future of transportation.
This position will be required to work on-site 5 days a week.
What you can do:
- Train battery manufacturing technicians on new manufacturing equipment, processes, safety procedures, and rework processes
- Create and implement Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for production activities
- Create and maintain clear and easy-to-understand organizational dashboards for technicians to work with
- Develop tooling concepts alongside engineers to improve safety and efficiency
- Participate in Process Failure Modes Effects and Analysis (PFMEA) for new products
- Provide regular updates to the Manufacturing Engineering Manager regarding departmental gaps and opportunities for improvement
- Collaborate with the engineering team to create and edit work instructions to ensure production readiness
- Provide feedback to design engineers regarding the assembly of their parts
- Maintain the organization and cleanliness of the laboratory spaces
- Perform preventative maintenance, calibrations, and repairs on manufacturing equipment
- Adapt to constantly evolving core technology processes while maintaining accurate and up-to-date documentation of changes through detailed notes and updated data sheets
- Up to 10% of domestic and international travel
- Other duties as assigned
What you can contribute:
- Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field required
- Minimum three (3) years of experience in a fast-paced lab or manufacturing environment requiring high-accuracy execution of processes or experiments (an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered)
- Experience with visual, dimensional, and functional in-process inspections
- Experience with power tools, torque tools, drills, and wrenches
- Experience in an environment that demands a high level of attention to detail and precision
- Ability to read and understand SDS
- Ability to assemble and rework battery modules or packs
- Consistent and thorough documentation of standard operating procedures focusing on process optimization and safety
- Ability to cut, crip, weld, and assemble HV cables and connectors
- Proficiency in the use of battery manufacturing equipment, including welders, bonders, adhesive dispensers, and other related machinery
- Adhere to the lab and work safety policies
- Proficient in applying hand and finger dexterity
- Ability to perform physical activities such as bending, kneeling, squatting, standing, walking, and reaching, including overhead reaching
- Ability to lift up to 30 pounds
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Proactive delivery of communication and follow up
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
- Must have the ability to independently prioritize and accomplish work within time constraints
- Proficiency with Excel VLOOKUP, pivot tables, MS Office Suite
You may also be able to contribute:
- Experience in battery assembly and rework preferred
- Experience in a lab start up environment preferred
