Assumes the technical lead for specific Engineering assignments with a predefined scope. Participates in cross-functional teams to improve production processes, facilities, and reduce manufacturing and raw material costs. Works to develop innovative concepts and designs that improve processes or products. Assists in the analysis of production performance to identify potential cost reductions and helps to develop cost estimates to justify capital expenditures.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Coordinates the design, purchase and installation of new equipment to support changes in capacity or product design.
  • Develops concepts and designs for internal and external development that bring innovative solutions to complex problems.
  • Works with outside engineering firms and prepares machine specifications for new equipment purchases.
  • Performs testing of new equipment at the vendor's site and validates the new equipment once it is installed in the plant.
  • Develops cost estimates for new equipment and facility projects and justifies those capital expenditures.
  • Assists in the analysis of production/product performance and identifies solutions to improve performance and achieve cost reductions.
  • Participates in cross-functional teams to deliver project objectives on schedule.
  • Communicates information among division, plant and vendor personnel.
  • Accountable for the achievement of specific project tasks.

SAFETY AND ENVIRONMENTAL PERFORMANCE STANDARDS
  • Discuss and document pertinent safety and environmental management topics at staff meetings.
  • Implement the use of a Preventative Maintenance Program to ensure that all new equipment and processes are reviewed for their safety and results documented.
  • Evaluate the Preventative Maintenance Program to determine scheduling and servicing problems and if they have impacted on safety performance.
  • Ensure all projects and new equipment have full and documented safety review.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Complies with, and responsible for enforcing, all local, state, federal and BD safety regulations, policies/procedures.
  • Complies with all local BD quality policies/procedures/practices through consistent application of sound Quality Assurance principles. Ensures compliance through appropriate communication, training, and education of sound Quality Assurance principles. Responsible for the activities and programs as defined for this position in the Quality Systems Manual BD Broken Bow.
  • Performs other job related duties as assigned.

Requirements are representative of minimum levels of knowledge, skills and/or abilities:
Education
  • Junior or Senior pursuing a B.S. Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering is preferred. A B.S. Degree in Industrial, Manufacturing, Project Management or Chemical Engineering will be considered.

Experience
  • Must possess a broad knowledge of the fundamental principles of equipment design, statistics, physics and other related technical sciences.
  • Experience in high speed manufacturing, as well as a general knowledge of plant operations (Accounting, Quality Assurance and Purchasing) is preferred.

Physical Requirements Level 2
Light Work:
  • Exerting up to 20 pound occasionally, and/or 10 pounds of force frequently, or negligible constantly. Walking or standing to a significant degree, or sitting constantly and pushing/pulling controls.

Mental Requirements
  • Strong verbal, written, analytical, persuasion and interpersonal skills.
  • Must have good interaction with all levels and functions of the organization, yet have the ability to work independently.

Equipment Use
  • Ability to manually operate a computer with a standard keyboard.
  • CAD proficiency required.
  • Statistical analysis preferred.

Working Conditions
  • The position is subject to inside environmental conditions typically associated with an office environment.

Supervision
  • This position has no supervision over others.
