The Position:

Provide Manufacturing Engineering input to support new product development, from initial conceptual design to the transition-to-production phase. A high degree of urgency to identify concerns and implement solutions is expected.


Functions:

  • Perform design for manufacturability, design for assembly, and design to cost analyses during the preliminary development phase, and drive changes early in product development
  • Identify opportunities for continuous improvement by performing product/process analysis for cost reduction, quality improvement, and improved efficiency for current and legacy parts
  • Work with Engineering to drive design for manufacturability and assembly concepts
  • Engage in daily process improvement with front-line team members and supervisors as a best practice to evaluate, support, and sustain ongoing production and resolve issues
  • Perform research, design and development of manufacturing processes including production flow, assembly methods and production equipment
  • Carry out process improvement, problem resolution, project management
  • Participate in engineering and manufacturing reviews and communicate effectively as a technical contributor
  • Assist in improving a system of production control, standard operating procedures, safety, quality control and training
  • Develop detailed manufacturing process documents
  • Participate in the development, implementation, and coordination of the capital budget to improve and maintain equipment and facilities
  • Collaborate with suppliers and subcontractors to resolve issues
  • Prepare and maintain detailed layouts of buildings and equipment

Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree in a technical field such as Mechanical, Industrial or Materials Engineering (Manufacturing Engineering preferred)
  • 2 years’ minimum Manufacturing Engineering experience
  • Proficiency in Word, Excel, Outlook
  • Knowledge of mechanical and electrical design manufacturability in an Engineer-to-Order manufacturing facility
  • Ability to visualize and comprehend critical elements of a manufacturing environment, and to understand the interactions of various factors that affect engineering designs
  • Ability to read, interpret and analyze manufacturing documents, technical drawings, wiring/electrical schematics, preliminary bills of material, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and repair manuals
  • Understanding of root cause analysis
  • Ability to justify analytical results and effectively communicate recommendations to positively influence designs
  • Written and oral communication skills and the ability to work in a collaborative team environment

Work Environment/Physical Conditions:

  • Standing on a hard surface, walking. Some lifting (not over 50 lbs.).
  • Office and manufacturing environment


Desired:

  • Proficiency in CAD Software (SolidWorks, AutoCAD), Microsoft Teams
  • Capability to maintain a positive attitude while interacting with a multi-functional workforce
  • Background working on the shop floor with operators demonstrating urgency to solve key manufacturing problems
  • Experience with ERP/MRP systems
  • Proven experience in implementing process improvement initiatives
  • Work experience in a leadership position
  • Strong decision making and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication skills
