Position Summary:
The Manufacturing Engineer, Prototype will independently support the department for all process design, manufacturing, and quality related engineering activities. This is a mid-level position that draws on prior CNC metal-cutting process experience, technical problem solving and creative skills to develop real-time solutions to aid in the completion of projects and assignments. This position will work in a collaborative, fast paced, dynamic, team environment companywide to provide engineering related support in the completion of assigned projects and support of organizational goals.
- Serve as a liaison across the Research and Development and Production Manufacturing Departments for the development of new product introduction programs and components from prototyping through high volume manufacturing.
- Design new manufacturing processes including machine selection, CNC and CMM fixture design, gages, tooling, control plans, work instructions, tool life studies, heat treat studies.
- Evaluate product designs for manufacturability while applying GD&T and dimensional stack-ups and make recommendations to aid manufacturing.
- Developing detailed process drawings and routings for equipment, process and workflow planning.
- Creating and maintaining quality documentation (waivers, deviations, control plans and charts).
- Identifying and supporting continuous improvement projects and cost savings initiatives.
- Researching and implementing new processes, equipment, and technologies.
- Ensuring manufacturing processes, equipment, and products comply with safety standards and legal regulations.
- Follow all internal ISO regulated departments processes and procedures.
- Participates in and sustains 5S Standards.
- Must follow all required ISO procedures, comply with all work exposure EH&S training requirements, and adhere to SIG SAUER, Inc. security mandates.
- Engages in and actively volunteers for Continuous Improvement projects/tasks.
- Miscellaneous duties as assigned.
- Must be able to travel infrequently
- B.S.Degree in manufacturing, industrial, or mechanical engineering required.
- 5+ years of experience in manufacturing or industrial engineering preferred.
- 3 years of experience in CNC manufacturing.
- Proficiency using Solidworks (or similar) CAD design software and Microsoft Office applications required.
- Experience using CAD-CAM, data analysis programs, and related software preferred.
- Experience evaluating and troubleshooting manufacturing processes and machinery.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Strong organization and management skills.
- High level of technical expertise.
- Strong analytical thinker.
- Firearms manufacturing candidates strongly considered.
- Able to lift up to 25 pounds.
- Must wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) which is required in designated areas.
