Job description

External Description
Perform a variety of manufacturing and industrial engineering duties to ensure the integrity of operational time standards, use of the most efficient and cost effective manufacturing processes for all products, research and recommend new operational technologies, and continuously improve the safety of the work
environment. In addition, under direction of the Director of Operations, drive operational excellence through the use of Lean manufacturing techniques.
Essential Duties Responsibilities
  • Review existing processes and equipment used for production at the assigned plant. Complete reviews as assigned, recommend appropriate changes and coordinate incorporation of new or altered procedures which make optimum use of machines, tooling, equipment and facilities, to achieve more efficient and cost effective processes while maintaining or enhancing quality standards of all products. Work with product engineering personnel to initiate or incorporate design changes on assigned products which will make better use of equipment and processes or enhance the quality of the product.
  • Develop, maintain and ensure accuracy of operational time standards and related substantiating data for all assigned products and processes, including machine operations, welding, assembly and packing. Perform time observations and calculate labor rates and standard costs based on these studies. Establish and maintain operational data, such as standard work combination sheets, text or visual work instructions, and cost information. Review, update and maintain existing routers on assigned products to assure labor accuracy for operational numbers, part descriptions, standard hours, work center assignments, operations sequences, multipliers, and number of employees for a job. Working with plant supervision, coordinate changes to all manufacturing data as a result of Kaizens and other improvements with appropriate engineering and financial personnel.
  • As assigned by the Director of Operations, work with design engineers to determine, before fabrication begins, whether new designs or engineering revisions to current designs are compatible with existing processes and equipment. If they are not, determine how equipment, tooling, or processes must be changed in order to manufacture that design. In cooperation with the Director of Operations and Purchasing, solicit quotations, evaluate proposals and interface with tooling or equipment manufacturers as required. Or, as appropriate, make recommendations as to how the design might be amended to utilize existing equipment or processes. With the Supply Chain Manager , determine whether new components should be fabricated in-house or purchased. In the case of purchased parts, work with vendors to ensure that parts are compatible with our equipment and processes. Ensure that labor standards for new products reflect actual processes, and that costs are accurate for the product. Together with the Director of Operations, interface with sales department personnel to determine whether any proposed changes in processes and/or equipment will affect our ability to sell or market the product. Work with engineering on testing any assigned new products.
  • As assigned, administer the calibration and preventive maintenance programs for specified plant, running and distributing schedules, and inputting all data into the system each month.
  • As assigned, process "Easy Specials" for production.
  • Work with plant supervisory personnel to train factory personnel in any new processes or changes to existing processes. Participate in resolution of product quality issues, and assist manufacturing personnel in resolving process problems, equipment or tooling issues.
