PURPOSE STATEMENT
The Manufacturing Continuous Improvement Intern is responsible for assisting in optimizing/maximizing the manufacturing conversion processes at our Missouri City site to reduce waste and increase production efficiency and yield while maintaining high product quality and ensuring Rich's Operations has leading edge product conversion knowledge.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES/OUTCOMES
1. (75%) Identification and elimination of waste in our manufacturing conversion processes:
• Lead at minimum 1 cost savings project to drive sustainable savings across the product category to achieve annual ROCS target of 3% productivity.
• Provides simulation modeling for unit operations (batching, heating, cooling, forming, depositing, etc.) and ability to model changes; optimize usage of resources, assist in costing new products, determining capacity impact of new products etc. Examples: energy utilization, formula line loss, capacity utilization etc.
• Ensures that the major opportunities are identified and prioritized.
• Assist in leading unit operation capability & bottleneck analysis.
• Assist product category gatekeeper for Operations to validate yield improvements for projects submitted with a business case.
2. (25%) Development of self and others; training and building product conversion expertise:
• Produce Standard Operating procedures to assist TPM Manager and/or Trio
• Participate in Focus Improvement Pillar and systems, especially supporting 6w2H & Root Cause Analysis while onsite.
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/EXPERIENCE
• Currently pursuing Bachelor's or Master's degree in Food Science, Chemical, Mechanical or Food Engineering, Supply Chain Operations, Business or related field
• Broad understanding of food processing equipment and raw material physical properties
• Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to communicate with both technical and non-technical people
• Ability to work effectively in a diverse team using strong leadership influence skills, and leading cross-functional teams to take action and implement improvements.
• Self-directed with ability to drive change using ADKAR process
• Demonstrated critical thinking, creativity and innovativeness
• Demonstrated initiative and business/project management skills
• Demonstrated ability in computer modeling and developing predictive analytic solutions/statistical models to determine cost constraints, environmental/safety impacts, rework, waste and yield savings preferred
• Knowledge of food processing and food processing equipment preferred
• Proficient using MS Office, familiar with SAP and SPC for understanding, analyzing and communicating calculations and process capabilities preferred
