Position: MANUAL MACHINIST Reports To: Manufacturing Manager

Employment Type: Full Time Schedule: Mon-Fri: 6:00am – 3:00pm

Essential Duties: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily:
- Follow all written and verbal operating procedures and instructions.
- Reads and interprets blueprints.
- Uses gages and measuring instruments to meet tolerance requirements.
- Uses precision tools, machinery, and equipment such as lathe, vertical milling machine, drill press, hydraulic press, chop saw, band saw, push and pull broaches and a variety of cutting tools and equipment.
- Fabricates and shapes parts such as tools and machine parts out of metal, plastics and composites.
- Properly and safely selects, aligns, secures, and removes holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials onto machines.
- Recognizes, deploys, and properly uses inserts, fixtures, and tooling.
- Performs daily and regular cleaning and light maintenance tasks on machinery and equipment.
- Evaluate experimental procedures and recommend change or modifications for efficiency and adaptability to setup and production.
- Ability to track parts and jobs in system.
- Utilizes and abides by safety procedures.
- Complies with all quality policies, specifications, regulations, and instructions.
- Maintain a clean and safe work area.
- Always abide by all safety standards
- May be asked to perform other duties as required by business needs.
Qualifications: The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required:
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
- Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
- Ability to perform basic mathematical computations and to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations.
- Able to inspect work product with a variety of gage instruments.
- Time management and deadline driven skills Promote and ensure a safe working environment by demonstrating consistent adherence to BLUSA’s safety policies.
- Regular attendance and daily punctuality are necessary for performing the job.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills are necessary.
- Possess a working knowledge and the ability to apply the concepts of Lean Manufacturing to achieve continuous production improvements.
- Must be able to speak, write, and read English and interpret documents such as safety guidelines, method sheets, maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Work overtime as needed when business demands require.
- Must be able to follow directions.
- Need basic computer navigation and utilization skills.
- Able to work independently to meet production expectations.
Education /Experience:
- 3 years of related experience
- General knowledge of:
- Estimating time and materials for machine jobs
- Metals and the quality and machinability and uses of metals, alloys and other materials
- Machines and tools, including their design, uses, repair and maintenance.
- Design techniques, tools and principals involved in the production of precision technical plans and drawings.
- High school diploma, G.E.D. or equivalent is required.
- 2-year technical school degree or Completion of an Apprenticeship Program is preferred.
- 5 - 7 years of experience of setting up, proving out, and operating CNC turning, and/or milling machines, including making program edits and tool offsets and compensations.
- Must be able to work from blueprints, sketches, oral, or written instructions with minimal supervision or technical guidance.
- Must have the skills, ability, and desire to train others as requested.
- Possess a working knowledge of typical shop inspection equipment such as micrometers, Vernier calipers, dial indicators, bore gages, CMM’s, and be proficient with all inspection methodologies.
- Good working knowledge and understanding of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T), metal cutting principles, tooling, and thread nomenclature is required.
- Must be capable of performing basic Algebra, Geometry, and Trigonometry calculations to solve routine machining problems.
Physical Requirements: Includes regular exposure to manufacturing areas that require the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, hearing protection, and respirators.
- Must be capable of standing for extended periods of time.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. on occasion.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
