The Managing Editor combines the innovativeness of a writer with the practical focus of an operations manager. The Managing Editor will assist in all phases of book publication from acquisitions to printing, marketing and distribution. The Managing Editor oversees freelance contributors such as designers, layout artists, proofreaders, indexers and assistant editors for books and websites, and engages with authors, booksellers and the community.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist in evaluating new book acquisitions.
- Manage the lifecycle of the editorial process from acquisition to publication: collaborate with designers, art directors and production teams, as well as with sales, publicity and marketing teams, to publish and position books as efficiently and effectively as possible.
- Communicate with printers, clients and other suppliers.
- Work with writers on manuscripts and engage with authors on a fully realized publishing campaign.
- Resolve issues as they arise.
- Schedule and arrange book launch and promotional events/activities.
- Attend events on behalf of the company and build relationships with community leaders and resources.
- Monitor and manage Evening Post Books budgets.
- Other duties as assigned by management.
- Bachelor’s degree in English or related field
- At least three years in book publishing or related field
- Proficiency in English

- Working knowledge of online publishing platforms
- Abilities in planning and coordinating people and operations
- Outstanding communication abilities
- Proficiency in social media (Instagram, Facebook, etc.)

- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively and to be supportive of other team members as well as authors
- Diplomacy and sensitivity in handling delicate conversations with multiple parties
