The Manager, Substation Engineering is responsible for the supervision and technical support for the Substation Engineering group for BRP. The manager is responsible for scheduling, engineering labor estimate, substation design estimates, and owner engineers' responsibilities in support of BRP projects. The manager is also responsible for standard development and cost control for substation projects. The Manager, Substation Engineering will report directly to the Senior Director, Engineering.

What You'll Do

  • Develops and coordinates 3rd party engineering contracts to perform EOR work under the direction of the BRP Substation staff to support customer projects.
  • Plans, coordinates, assigns, and schedules station design work tasks including: project scope development, cost estimating, proposal development, design preparation, and assembling design packages for construction.
  • Leads efforts in the development and implementation of standards for equipment, material, design, and construction requirements for transmission substations.
  • Oversees the implementation of company design processes, procedures, and the use of computer aided design and drafting (CADD) software applications to ensure consistency, quality, and efficiency in the station design process.
  • Oversees development of station material specifications, selection, evaluation of materials, and failure analysis to determine root cause.
  • Provides input to budget development related to station design and material procurement for BRP estimators. Aids in cost variance analysis post project completion to improve estimates.
  • Works closely with other engineering groups within BRP and Pine Gate Renewables to coordinate all aspects of solar and battery storage engineering.
  • Coaches, mentors, performs performance reviews, and guides training/staff development.
  • Interviews and evaluates candidates for employment and makes hiring recommendations.
  • Approves expense statement and office leave requests.
  • Actively participates in industry forums, conferences and other company initiatives to support BRP in its mission.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Must-Haves

  • Demonstrated knowledge of electric system components and related communications and protection functions.
  • Demonstrated effective leadership skills, including mentoring, coaching, and developing employees in a team environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze performance, process improvements, and standardization activities.
  • Demonstrated effective interpersonal, verbal and written skills.
  • Flexible and adaptable commercial agility; ability to reorder critical design projects based on new commercial requirements, under tight deadlines and sometimes changing requirements.
  • Demonstrated strong organizational skills.

Nice-to-Haves

  • PE or ability to retain is required
Education and Certifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • Minimum of 5-8 years of directly related electric utility engineering experience with 1-2 years of leadership in a design engineering group.

Work Environment and Physical Demand

  • May require lifting/carrying items up to 30 pounds.
  • Travel up to 25%.
  • Position works in an office environment.
  • Must be able to sit/stand at a desk and utilize a computer, for extended periods of time.
