Job Summary
**Hybrid Work Environment - Must reside on Oahu **
The Manager, Strategic Communications, helps direct communication strategies that support and advance the mission and business of HMSA. Contributes to the design, execution and management of communications related to, but not limited to, the strategic plan, organizational effectiveness, and care delivery initiatives. The position will collaborate with Communications management to plan, direct, implement and monitor the performance of programs and projects that are highly strategic and of critical importance, work directly with and develop and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders and ensure alignment and consistency of messaging across audiences, departments, and channels. Areas of focus may include:

Supervises Strategic Communications Specialist(s) and other assigned staff.
Minimum Qualifications
  1. Bachelor's degree and five years of related work experience; or an equivalent combination of education and related work experience.
  2. Two years of managerial/supervisory experience.
  3. Strong writing and editing skills.
  4. Strong verbal communication skill.
  5. Strong analytic and critical thinking skills.
  6. Project management skills.
  7. Intermediate working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.

Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Strategic planning and project management
    • Develop and contribute to Strategic Communications plans to ensure the delivery of meaningful, clear, concise, relatable messaging that supports HMSA's goals and initiatives.
    • Ensure the critical flow of communication between all key players including the customer, communications resources, and management.
    • Manage the timely completion of communications project deliverables.
    • Identify project requirements, milestone criteria, task dependencies, and create schedules to effectively manage multiple, simultaneous projects.
    • Track the day-to-day schedules of project deliverables, work directly with cross-departmental team members, facilitate communication and provide status updates to the business owner, executive sponsor, and project team.
  2. Collaboration
    • Partner with and advise internal stakeholders on best strategies, tactics, and channels to deliver messages.
    • Build positive relationships with HMSA stakeholders to drive proactive communications.
    • Partner with departments and resources within and outside of the organization to reach desired objectives.
    • Support both internal and external department-related events.
  3. Continuous improvement
    • Regularly evaluate the effectiveness of existing communications content and channels, and build the right communications frameworks, tools, and messaging as a foundation to move HMSA forward.
    • Manage and oversee the successful implementation of new and innovative communications channels based on research and measurement.
  4. Create and oversee content development.
    • Oversee the planning and implementation of assigned communications plans and projects, and corresponding content.
    • Identify, develop, and/or edit timely, relevant, and engaging communications, such as digital, video, intranet, email, social media, speeches, talking points, brochures, and presentations.
    • Builds a community where the intended audience feels welcomed, proactively takes the desired action, and participates in conversations.
    • Plan, edit and write content for a variety of communications mediums, such as the company intranet, email, e-newsletter, digital displays, social media, events, presentations and more.
  5. Messaging
    • Ensure consistent framing of messages across all mediums and for different departments across the organization, as well as external stakeholders.
    • Ensure internal and external messages are consistent.
    • Create, manage, and maintain a messaging and content calendar.
    • Partner with other departments to ensure proper internal and external messaging and relevancy, ensuring consistency of messages.
    • Assist the Communications management team with developing and distributing communications strategies and materials regarding organizational changes, employee benefits and HMSA goals and initiatives.
    • Assist Communications management and HMSA Executive team with developing and distributing crisis communications strategies and material internally and externally.
  6. Feedback and measurement
    • Develop feedback mechanisms to assess awareness, understanding, buy-in and engagement in company initiatives, goals and campaigns.
    • Measure effectiveness of messaging and communication vehicles respond to feedback from colleagues and adjust communications content accordingly.
    • Analyze campaigns and translate anecdotal or qualitative data into recommendations and plans for revising internal communications plans.
    • Compile reports for management showing return on investment.
  7. Management
    • Recruits, hires, and retains staff.
    • Manages, oversees, and onboards new Strategic Communications staff. Mentors and coaches staff.
    • Assigns tasks, monitors progress, and provides feedback during and after assignments.
    • Acts as the subject matter expert for the Strategic Communications framework, processes, and workflows.
    • Responsible for the department's BAU processes.
    • Develop annual department budget. Track actuals versus budget throughout the year and alert upper management if issues arise.
  8. Stay updated on trends
    • Connect with peers inside and outside HMSA to ensure we are leveraging communications best practices.
  9. Work closely with larger Communications team to provide external communications support when needed.
  10. Performs all other miscellaneous responsibilities and duties as assigned or directed.
