Job description

The Museum of Modern Art is currently accepting applications for a Manager, Special Programming and Events. As a critical member of the Special Events team, the Manager will work closely with the Director of Special Events and Affiliate Programs to oversee strategic planning and fundraising for all of the Museum’s benefit events. Additionally, the Manager will provide oversight of the Museum’s exhibition openings and Trustee and donor events.

Additional responsibilities include:

  • Creates and proposes the overall fundraising strategy for Museum benefits with the Department Director. Collaborates with the Research, Individual Philanthropy, Institutional Giving, and Affiliates teams to identify, cultivate, solicit and secure funds, and steward donors to Museum events across all channels.
  • Cultivates and stewards current high level and corporate donors and event sponsors. Works to make connections and engage with new donors and prospective sponsors, constantly growing the pool of potential event support.
  • Makes, executes and exercises independent judgment about management policies as it pertains to the Museum’s fundraising for benefits and donor facing events.
  • Manages Event Coordinator and Department Assistant. Supervises External Affairs staff and hosts working events. Trains interns/temps as applicable.
  • Manages all reporting and financial forecasting for benefit event fundraising activities, including creating reports. Uses and analyzes collected data to drive decision making for future events. Maintains all event donor related information and research from events. Ensures data is entered into the Museum’s Salesforce database, and funneled into a greater pipeline of possible support across all areas of fundraising.
  • Oversees seating strategy and planning for Museum events, including coordinating seating with Board leadership, tracking all seating from past events, and sharing data with the Research team.
  • Works with the Department Director on details and logistics for all Trustee dinners, luncheons and receptions. Assists in stewarding the Museum’s highest-level event supporters.
  • Manages the organization of 30-40 Museum exhibition opening events throughout the year. Coordinates thoughtful and strategic invitation lists and works to create unique and positive donor engagement and experience at every Museum event.
  • Oversees the preparation of various correspondence, including solicitation letters, renewal letters, sponsorship asks and acknowledgments and the creation and content of all printed benefit materials.
  • Liaises with a diverse range of Museum staff (curatorial, Development, Finance, Security, Operations) on event-related matters, often acting on behalf of the Department Director.
  • Performs any other duties reasonably related to the functions described above.

Reports to: Director, Special Events and Affiliate Programs

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree and five or more years of progressively responsible event management experience or equivalent. Strong understanding of benefit fundraising required.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must be able to interact and communicate with high-level donors and sponsors with tact and diplomacy. Effective prioritization and multitasking in a demanding and fast paced environment with great care to detail. Ability to work individually as well as part of a team.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Salesforce, and Web-based programs.
  • Flexibility to work late hours and some weekends.

Salary range: Minimum of $85,000 to maximum of $105,000 per annum
