As a passionate and accomplished communicator, you will be responsible for managing Public Affairs campaigns and programs for Ascension at a national level, in support of our advocacy objectives. These external communications strategies are developed to strengthen Ascension’s brand and reputation and support business and Public Affairs priorities across markets. You will partner with our market communicators, as well as advocacy, marketing, and internal communications to demonstrate our commitment to the communities Ascension serves. You are both a strong program manager and an influencer, using your written and verbal skills, as well as your campaign skills, to deliver measurable results. You will report directly to the Associate Vice President of Public Affairs.
Responsibilities
- Manage day to day execution of Public Affairs campaigns at a national level, in coordination with other enterprise and local market communication teams
- Act as a project manager for national campaigns, in coordination with key internal and external stakeholders
- Develop communication messaging documents, creative content, and strategic plans to support our Public Affairs efforts
- Provide external communications counsel and support to Ascension market leaders and other partner teams as needed
- Combine a big-picture perspective with attention to detail, clarity and focus
- Ensure that communications reflect the Mission, Vision and Values of Ascension as a healing ministry of the Catholic Church
- Maintain flexible availability and responsiveness both during and outside of normal work hours as necessary
Complexity of Work
- Requires excellent writing and project management skills, as well as critical thinking, strategic counseling and decisive judgment.
- Experience in a Public Affairs role previously is required.
- Ideally the candidate will also have a knowledge of the evolving healthcare market, Ascension’s history and current initiatives, and communications practices and standards.
- Must be able to work in a stressful, fast-paced environment
Work Experience
- Eight plus years in a Public Affairs communications role, ideally with experience working in a healthcare provider system or similar services organization
- Experience with executive communications and counsel
- Familiarity with national and local issues management
- Adept at the rapid development of content in support of national business, market and organizational communications needs
- Experience developing clear KPIs and reporting out to multiple teams, including senior executives
Education:
- High School diploma equivalency with 3 years of cumulative experience OR Associate's degree/Bachelor's degree with 2 years of cumulative experience OR 7 years of applicable cumulative job specific experience required. 3 years of leadership or management experience preferred.
