Scope of Position
The Comprehensive Cancer Center, Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital and Richard J. Solove Research Institute is committed to providing the community/region it serves with high-quality services in cancer detection, diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation. Under the direction of the Assistant Director of Pharmacy, this position leads and manages patient care services for the James Cancer Hospital Oncology Outpatient Infusion areas for the pharmacy enterprise. The James Cancer Hospital outpatient oncology infusion includes nine infusion units in seven care locations. The pharmacy enterprise employs over 700 FTEs, dispenses nearly 14M doses annually, and generates $2.8B in revenue based on a $650M drug budget. The pharmacy enterprise has a close affiliation with all of the health sciences colleges, most importantly the college of pharmacy where 15 pharmacy staff have faculty appointments. The pharmacy enterprise contributes to the academic and research mission of the university by training yearly almost 30 residents, publishing 42 peer-reviewed papers, and precepting nearly 10,000 pharmacy student hours of experiential education.
Position Summary
This position provides management for the patient care services of the outpatient oncology infusion pharmacies. This position assists with the implementation and maintenance of an enterprise-wide pharmacy practice model, specifically contributing to the area of Oncology Outpatient Infusion services. This pharmacy practice model is guided by the Ohio Board of Pharmacy Practice Act (OAC4729-5). This position is responsible for direct supervision of a portion of the Oncology Outpatient Infusion pharmacists. This includes oversight of staff in the areas of productivity, quality, cost, and continued compliance with all national, state, and local regulations. This position supports The Ohio State University's
research and education missions. For the purposes of this job description, direct patient care services refer to the following activities: patient care rounding, order verification, medication dispensing, collaborative drug therapy management under a consult agreement, and educating patients, healthcare professionals, and students.
Minimum Qualifications
For Hire: This position must be a licensed pharmacist in good standing with the Ohio Board of Pharmacy or be eligible for licensure. A B.Sc. in Pharmacy, or Doctor of Pharmacy degree (PharmD) is required. An advanced administrative degree (M.S., MHA, MPH, MBA) is preferred. Post-graduate residency training is preferred. In addition, a significant track record in scholarship and teaching are preferred.
Job Relationships
Supervisory Responsibility: Supervises Oncology Outpatient Infusion pharmacists.
Contacts: Daily contact with physicians, advanced practice providers, nurses, pharmacy directors, organizational leaders, pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, pharmacy residents, and graduate and undergraduate students. This position participates on the pharmacy leadership team.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee must be able to:
• Occasionally move up to 30lb objects (i.e. IV admixtures, stock boxes) from one level to another.
• Occasionally transport up to 30lb objects (i.e. IV admixtures, stock boxes)
• Occasionally push 50lb objects (i.e. biohazard boxes, stock carts, crash carts) so that the object moves toward you.
• Frequently position oneself without moving about (i.e. preparing med bins, preparing IV admixtures)
• Maneuver around area (i.e. preparing medications, placing stock, answering door/window)
• Simultaneously perform multiple functions
• Regularly obtain medications from stock.
• Maneuver in any direction (i.e. obtaining medications from various heights (floor to 8'), obtaining supplies, preparing IV admixture)
• Constantly handle by seizing (i.e separating IV admixtures, grasping syringes, and other supplies, opening medication packages, answering telephones)
• Manipulate objects (i.e. working with unit dose pharmaceuticals, dialing telephone, manipulating syringes and other pharmacy supplies, packaging pharmaceuticals, using a typewriter, computer keyboard)
• Produce clear, intelligible speech 100% of the time (i.e communication with hospital and pharmacy staff about medication orders)
• Understand verbal communication 100% of the time (i.e. communication with hospital and pharmacy staff about medication orders.
• Walk and/or push a cart for an extended period of time (i.e. delivery of medication to all nursing units)
Work Environment
The work involves risks or discomforts which require special safety precautions, additional safety education and/or health risk monitoring, e.g. working around moving parts, carts, machines; working with sharps (i.e. needles, syringes, etc.), medications (i.e. chemotherapy, antibiotics, ionizing radiation, etc.), chemicals (i.e. laboratory and/or cleaning agents). Employee may be required to use protective clothing or gear such as masks or gloves.
