Job purpose
The general purpose of your job is to keep children who are clients of HOTI safe at all times and to be respectful of the children and their families as valued customers.
The primary purpose of the Respiratory Manager is planning, organizing, developing, directing and supervising the day-to-day functions of the Respiratory Therapy Department as well as the KCPCC Laboratory. Conduct and coordinate the KCPCC Laboratory as well as the delivery of Respiratory Care and assessment in accordance with current federal, state and local standards, guidelines and regulations that govern our facility.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Responsible for the 24 hour operations of the Respiratory Therapy department
- Oversee the daily operations of the Respiratory Therapy Department to include staff interviews, employment decision, orientation, performance evaluations, employee training and development, as well as inventory, equipment, and instrument issues
- Share responsibility for employee engagement, recruitment and retention (daily)
- Assist in the development of annual departmental operations and budgets.
- Monitor expenditures within budgetary guidelines, analyze variances and make appropriate adjustments. (as needed)
- Demonstrate cost containment with all resources (as needed)
- Implement the Home of the Innocents standards of care, policies and procedures as well as KCPCC workbook instructions (daily)
- Analyze problems or procedures, evaluate alternatives and select best course of action; use of logic and commonly accepted practices in decision making to ensure timely effective solutions. (daily)
- Maintains legal and accreditation compliance by concerning federal, state, and local regulations (daily)
- Maintaining open and ongoing communication with KCPCC Administration Team to ensure Resident, staff, and facility needs are met (daily)
- Ensuring all regulatory requirements are met regarding respiratory and point of care lab testing (daily)
- Function as Moderate Complexity Lab Manager, and oversee all laboratory testing within the KCPCC (daily)
- Coordinating and actively participating in Pulmonary Rounds (weekly)
- Maintain a direct line of communication with pulmonary physicians to facilitate/implement and routinely monitor weaning Residents from mechanical ventilation (as needed)
- Promote flexibility, team building and engagement to promote an efficient and positive work environment (daily)
- Effectively share information, build relationships and influence positive outcomes (daily)
- Creating and maintaining clinical schedule for staffing (as needed)
- Updates RT job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities, reading professional publications, maintaining personal networks, and participating in professional organizations (as needed)
- Steering Progressive clinical excellence through staff development and education for all disciplines in the KCPCC (as needed)
- Promoting continuous quality improvement (daily)
- Teaching and counseling Residents/Families (as needed)
- Maintaining competency in medical emergency events (as needed)
- Demonstrates a commitment to professionalism while undertaking all tasks and in all interactions with Residents, clients, physicians, facility staff and the community at large (daily)
- Must possess a current, unencumbered, active license/certification as a Respiratory Therapist in Kentucky
- Registered Credential (RRT) from the National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC)
- Associates Degree in Respiratory Therapy required, Bachelor’s Degree preferred
- Two (2) years of experience as a supervisor in a hospital, long-term care or other related facility preferred
- Five (5) years of experience as a Respiratory Therapist in a hospital, long-term care facility, or other health care related facility preferred.
- Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Skilled in handling emergency and life-threatening situations
- Positive, caring and customer-service oriented attitude
- Possess and maintain computer skills to include working knowledge of Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint and ability to learn other software as needed. Competency in spread sheet and data base programs preferred
