SUMMARY OF POSITION:
Plans, organizes, and directs the operations and activities of the Operations Department. Maintains utility service by supervising the operations field personnel and resources which provide adequate and dependable service to consumers. Assumes responsibility for the construction of new lines in an efficient manner, and according to an approved construction schedule. Supervises system mechanic and Operations Department assistant. Responsible for meeting financial plans, ensures quality operations services, and provides general supervision.
DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Performs as Department Manager for Operations insuring cooperative policies, directives, goals, work plans are initiated followed and completed.
- Provides for a quality utility system at the lowest expense possible by coordinating system construction and expansion. Coordinates with Engineering to insure system improvements and new facilities are planned and completed within budget and on schedule.
- Provides quality service to consumers by supervision and coordination implementation of processes and procedures insuring excellent response to utility system and consumer needs.
- Assists in cooperative financial and company goals by developing, recommending, and coordinating the annual department expense and capital budgets.
- Creates and updates department work plans, maintenance plans, goals and insures efficient use of cooperatives resources.
- Supervises and oversees the activities of line crews. Responsible for work and inspection schedules, line maintenance, efficient outage coordination and restoration and promptly replying to consumers requests.
- Supervises and oversees mechanic insuring cooperative vehicles and equipment are efficiently maintained and functioning providing excellent use of cooperative resources.
- Supervises and oversees Operations Assistant providing resources for department operations and excellent service to consumers and interdepartmental needs.
- Supervises outage dispatch and restoration processes and procedures coordinating with all.
- Provides contracts and oversees miscellaneous contractors for utility construction, pole testing, tree trimming coordinating with management and ensuring Engineering plans and budgets are completed.
- Provides for cooperative safety functions including providing an excellent safety culture at the cooperatives. Ensures cooperative employees receive appropriate training on policies, rules, codes, and regulations and that they are followed and enforced.
INTERPERSONAL SKILLS:
Must possess excellent interpersonal skills. Will be required to work closely with all personnel from management to subordinates.
COMMUNICATIONS:
ORAL: Good communicative skills to present data to various levels of management and to express oneself to all levels of employees.
WRITTEN: Ability to communicate knowledge and ideas with clarity, effectiveness, and ease.
SCHEDULING AND PLANNING:
Must be self-motivated to ensure deadlines are met, projects are followed through and multiple tasks are done simultaneously. Must have the ability to prioritize, plan workload and ensure tasks are completed on a timely basis.
BASIC JOB REQUIREMENTS:
EDUCATION:
Completion of high school, advanced technical or college preferred.
EXPERIENCE:
Requirement of ten or more years of progressive experience in power utility construction, maintenance, and operations. Supervisory, management preferred.
EQUIPMENT OPERATED:
Vehicle, Telephone, radio, personal computer and software.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
Field and office environment.
