Northrop Grumman’s Mission Systems Sector is seeking a Manager of Integration & Operations within its Strategy & Engineering Excellence (SEE) organization, formerly known as DECD, which is a part of the sector’s Engineering & Sciences (E&S) organization.
The charter of the SEE organization is to partner with business division engineering teams to provide common and scalable engineering capabilities to E&S’s 11,000+ engineering workforce in the U.S., with additional support to international subsidiaries as needed. Capabilities include engineering standards, processes & tools, digital design solutions / digital transformation, data & analytics solutions and technical training & talent development programs.
The Manager of Integration & Operations will provide project management for the coordination and seamless integration, transition and deployment of capabilities developed by the SEE organization.
The Manager will also lead day-to-day operations of the SEE team’s home office, which includes integrated planning, budgeting and general administration activities required to run the organization.
Roles and Responsibilities
Integration, Project Management, Consultation
- Establish and lead a program management approach for integrating and transitioning SEE capabilities, offerings and initiatives to division engineering teams. This includes: (but not limited to):
- Ensuring the appropriate development, dissemination, and deployment of tasks associated with engineering initiatives.
- Integrated planning & budgeting for strategic initiatives.
- Goals tracking.
- Provide technical and management consultation to E&S teams for deployment and transition of SEE offerings as needed.
- Partner with Business Management and Strategy functions in the execution of the strategic planning process and the alignments to strategy for engineering.
- Partner with Communications team to ensure effective and integrated communications and messaging for SEE activities.
- Lead / Facilitate cross-functional bilateral meetings with internal partner organizations.
- Coordinate engineering status reporting for strategic initiatives tailored to customer audiences.
Day-to-Day Operations
- Plan, coordinate, and facilitate staff meetings, leadership off-sites and site visits, organizational reviews, and other leadership team activities as required.
- Collect data and develop materials in support of engineering level meetings and leadership team decision-making actions.
- Publish meeting minutes with actions; coordinate with teams to drive actions to closure in alignment with organizational priorities.
- Manage and maintain organizational budgets.
- Manage and maintain data repositories (e.g. SharePoint, Website content).
- Ensure the sharing of best practices with other operations functions across the engineering organization.
- Workforce planning, staffing, talent development & retention and employee engagement initiatives for the Integration & Operations team.
- Ensure the VP of engineering is prepared for critical meetings and engagements; May serve as a VP delegate from time-to-time.
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree with 10 years of experience, a Master’s degree with 8 years of experience or a PhD with 6 years of experience in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics or related technical fields.
- U.S Citizenship is required and an active DoD Secret Clearance.
- 4 years of experience managing engineering practices and providing program leadership.
- Strong leadership and collaboration skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Good general knowledge of Northrop Grumman portfolio of products, technologies and customers.
- Strong program and project management skills, with demonstrated experience leading technical teams, either as a program / project manager, functional manager or technical leader on Northrop Grumman or other defense industry programs.
- Technical experience in any combination of Systems, Software, Hardware, or Cyber engineering within the defense or aerospace industries.
- Ability to operate independently based on strategic objectives, work in a team environment, and collaborate across the corporation as required.
- Experience working across multiple lines of business and functional disciplines (e.g. manufacturing, supply chain, business management, strategy & business development).
- Ability to apply strong analytical and problem-solving skills to develop recommendations based on data from different sources.
- Demonstrated success in championing change within the organization to achieve competitive advantage for the business.
- Demonstrated proficiency in MS Office suite of tools.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Advanced degrees in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics or related technical fields.
- Active DoD Top Secret Clearance or higher.
- Experience interfacing at senior levels within company and the customer community.
- Understanding of Agile framework and associated tools & processes.
- Demonstrated knowledge of hiring, staffing, engineering metrics and training resources, processes, and tools.
- Experience in all phases of program executions, including development, production, Integration & test, deployment and logistics support.
Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results.
