The position of Labor Relations Manager is to support the Store/Division/District management in upholding, interpreting, and applying the various union collective bargaining agreements. This position also works with the Director of Labor relations to negotiate labor contracts. The main task is to manage the grievance and arbitration process under all CBAs.
Description for Internal Candidates
QUALIFICATIONS (The following are preferred or desired unless specifically stated):
- 4-year college degree or equivalent professional experience.
- 5-6 years Labor Relations or Human Resources experience in unionized retail grocery industry or other unionized industry, with 2-3 years of experience serving as a bargaining team member and providing meaningful support in labor contract negotiations, and 3-4 years of hands-on experience processing and resolving labor contract grievances.
- Experience in investigating, administering and effectively recommending all levels of employee discipline under a collective bargaining agreement(s) and applicable company work rules.
- PC knowledge (Microsoft Windows, Excel, and Word).
- Strong analytical skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Able to work independently but also collaboratively as part of a team.
Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Work with Director of Labor Relations, Division staff, retail operations and store managers in the application and interpretation of the division’s various collective bargaining agreements and work rules.
- Help train management in the prevention and proper resolution of day-to-day labor issues
- Support and assist the Director of Labor Relations in all labor contract negotiations
- Serve as strong management advocate while maintaining professional and productive relationships with union representatives
- Manage the grievance and arbitration process under several collective bargaining agreements. Specific responsibilities include logging and tracking all grievances as well as reviewing, investigating and responding to grievances; negotiating settlements where appropriate and assisting outside counsel in preparing cases for arbitration where grievances are unresolved Monitor contributions to benefit trust funds.
Salary: Salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
