Manager Gas Central Maintenance

Work Location: Negotiable within Montana Service Territory

Pay range: $97,500 to 158,800 per year

About this position:

The Manager Gas Central Maintenance is responsible for the successful execution of various maintenance based programs within the Central Operations department. The Manager Gas Central Maintenance Manager provides personnel and management responsibilities for the following departments: Cathodic Protection (distribution only), Performance Management, and Damage Prevention.

About this job:

  • Demonstrate leadership consistent with NorthWestern Energy's code, values, policies, processes and controls
  • Direct supervision and development of internal staff dedicated to the Cathodic Protection, Damage Prevention, and Performance Management groups
  • Lead department employees to meet the organization's expectations for safety, productivity, quality, and goal accomplishment
  • Provide oversight and direction in the department area in accordance with the organization's goals, policies and procedures
  • Ensure adherence to regulatory, compliance and company standards
  • Create, issue, and evaluate Request for Proposals for contract resources to perform maintenance related activities
  • Evaluate and implement technologies, tools, resources, and contractors related to maintenance based activities to optimize department and organizational efficiency
  • Initiate and review contracts and ensure NWE project interests and specifications are appropriately represented prior to contract execution
  • Develop schedule, cost, and scope controls to monitor contractor performance specifically related to, but not limited to, distribution gas leak survey
  • Plan, evaluate, and improve the efficiency of business processes and procedures
  • Lead special projects and utilize change and project management techniques as required
  • Manage department budgets ensuring proper forecasting, cost and scope control
  • Manage projects and programs to produce engineering documents and budgets to address the needs of the gas distribution system
  • Ensure contractor submittals and data align with company specifications.
  • Review and approve contractor invoicing to appropriate budgeted orders
  • Ensure program compliance to auditable guidelines, policies, practices and organization standards, including federal and state regulations
  • Continuously evaluate and compare established tools and methods with corresponding emerging technologies and for best application in Gas Central Maintenance programs
  • Assist in developing and managing budgets, forecast capital and expense budgets within the department
  • Respond to customer needs and inquiries and perform field investigations as needed
  • Represent NorthWestern Energy on industry associations aligned with department priorities, including, but not limited to, the Montana Utilities Coordinating Council (MUCC)Support Distribution Operations performance management needs by providing performance analyses and developing and maintaining performance metrics data and dashboards
  • Travel up to 50% to jobsites, off-site meetings and trainings including overnight stays when necessary
  • A significant amount of time is spent in an office environment with occasional lifting of products or material up to 35 pounds

  • S. degree in Engineering preferred, but will consider other degrees for highly qualified candidate
  • Previous supervisory experience preferred
  • Previous manager experience preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and develop technical department staff preferred
  • Professional Engineer's License, or ability to obtain a license is preferred
  • Excellent computer skills and proficient with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Demonstrate and maintain a good safety record
  • Good working knowledge of utility construction and operations maintenance activities
  • First Aid/CPR Certification preferred
  • Valid driver's license and satisfactory driving record
