What you will do
A Ferroglobe Safety Manager (Mines) works to prevent workplace accidents and promotes health and safety awareness and education to fellow employees. You are responsible for making sure that employees follow health and safety laws and creating policies for a safer work environment and take measures to identify potential workplace hazards and improve existing conditions.
- Follow safety procedures and guidelines as established by Management
Measures and evaluates practices, policies and procedures related to risk assessment and compliance - Drafts, prepares and implements policies aiming at fostering a culture of health and safety
- Creates, develops and implements health and safety programs in accordance with legal guidelines
- Identifies and recommends solutions to safety issues and adoption of preventative initiatives
- Conducts periodical inspection of the mines and plant’s equipment and machinery
- Display a keen awareness and current knowledge of safety and health issues
- Supervises and monitors compliance of safety laws, policies, and procedures
- Conduct accident investigation and propose corrective and disciplinary measures
- Maintains current analytical procedures and develops new procedures to ensure smooth and efficient operation of the department
- Evaluates direct reports on technical abilities, performance, and leadership development skills
- Generates relevant and detailed reports of all safety activities
Ensures that health, safety policies, standards and procedures are always complied with - Promptly corrects any department deficiencies
- Additional duties as required
- Experience as a Safety Manager for a surface mining company preferred
- Maintain MSHA Safety Logs, perform weekly meetings, if needed contest infractions
- Strong understanding of surface mining processes
- Bachelor of Science in Mining or related field a plus
- Solid understanding of safety (MSHA), health policies, procedures, and legal requirements
- Excellent knowledge of data analysis and risk assessment
Strong problem-solving, training, organizational, documentation, computer, and mentoring capabilities
- Experience with Outlook, Excel, MS Office and SAP
- Certified in dust and noise sampling and Mine Emergency Technician preferred
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to perform classroom and individual training
- Strong attention to details
- Task oriented with the ability to plan, implement, and complete tasks
- Noise Vibration Hazards: mechanical, electrical, chemical, dust
- Ability to lift 50lbs, Ability to crawl in low seam mines, Floor to waist, Waist to shoulder. Overhead, Carry 20 feet.
- Performs jobs under varying conditions (dust, oil, grease, hot and humid temperatures, fumes, noise, etc.)
- Wears proper PPE in the manufacturing area (shoes, safety glasses, and hearing protection)
