EHS (Environmental Health & Safety) Manager
GENERAL SUMMARY OF JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Manager, EHS provides safety oversight and support to the operational team, value-add workforce, and office personnel. Manager, EHS is responsible for developing and maintaining a proactive safety culture throughout all RWC facilities.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Updates, develops, and reinforces safety policies, guidelines, and procedures established by Robert Weed. Ensures employees have the training and equipment to meet these expectations.
- Partners with HR and department leaders to accomplish safety objectives.
- Receives and handles all Workers Comp claims.
- Ensures accidents and incidents are reported and are promptly and thoroughly investigated
- Conducts safety audits, reporting, and managing the corrective actions
- Provides daily guidance and training for EHS programs at the employee/supervisor level.
- Ensures adherence to all safety rules and procedures, certifications, and compliance with all health, safety, and environmental government regulations.
- Performs regular safety audits of the facility and promptly corrects any identified deficiencies.
- Facilitates the RW Secures Premier Team. Defines team direction, ensures monthly safety audits and observations are performed and documented, reviews Safety Alerts of accidents, addresses safety concerns, solicits ideas for safety improvements.
- Develops skills of Team members to audit, identify, and correct safety issues.
- Ensures Team members use constructive coaching techniques to address at-risk behaviors.
- Coordinates inspections by regulatory agencies. Promptly corrects any deficiencies identified.
- Quarterly review of chemical invoices, works with Environmental Consultant to prepare quarterly FESOP certification
- Acts as Voluntary Responder Team Lead and training coordinator, as well as Emergency Control Committee Leader for injury events
- Maintains log of days’ work was restricted/lost, and submits data to OSHA and BLS
- Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS & CERTIFICATIONS
- Minimum 5 years of experience in Safety or Environmental leadership role
- Minimum 2 years operation experience in wood cutting, shaping and lamination environment
- Continuous Improvement or Lean Manufacturing training and experience
- Strong organizational and interpersonal skills with the ability to influence all levels of RWC
- Ability to work in teams with others cross-functionally including outside vendors
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Intermediate computer skills (e.g., MS Office including Excel PowerPoint, and Word)
- Must demonstrate the ability to work in a fast-paced environment and multitask
- Able to work independently with minimal supervision
PREFERRED SKILLS, EDUCATION, CERTIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE
- Degree in Management or a Safety related curriculum
- Manufacturing experience
- Knowledge of Environmental Safety regulations, with emphasis on wood milling and lamination industry
- Knowledge of laws regarding the purchase, transport, and sale of wood and lamination products
- Working knowledge of safety regulations by the Department of Transportation for the trucking industry
- Working knowledge of OSHA 1910 regulations for General industry
