Overview
The Manager, Adoptions is responsible for overseeing program initiatives across primary and ancillary adoption center locations as well as our internal pet store located at the main campus. This person will lead program planning and development, as well as the implementation of innovative and dynamic customer focused adoption programs and services. We are looking for someone with a passion for leading and motivating a team to place animals in their forever homes.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Think big picture; develop and execute on adoption programs that tie into HSSV’s greater initiatives and strategic plan.
- Manage and develop a high performing team; spearheading hiring, team building, employee relations, communications, training, performance management, and goal setting.
- Partner with the Volunteer Department to ensure volunteer recruitment needs are met and supervise volunteers assigned to the department.
- Develop customer friendly programs that drive adoption interest and support adopters before, during, and after they adopt a pet.
- Measure and report on adoption program results through animal placement success stores and customer satisfaction.
- Frequently review and develop programs, policies, procedures, and guidelines to maximize adoptions and remove barriers for adopters.
- Create an atmosphere that promotes and delivers excellent customer service focused on identifying opportunities to match available animals and customers together.
- Oversee scheduling, recruitment, training, development, mentorship and motivation of employees and volunteers.
- Collaborate with other departments to promote adoption programs and participate in cross functional process improvements and projects, as well as ensure effective partnerships between the adoptions team and other departments, staff and volunteers.
- Meet or exceed monetary donation goals through regular staff training and development of staff and volunteers fundraising skills.
- Develop and monitor annual budget; adhere to budgetary guidelines while continuously seeking cost-savings opportunities and maximizing revenue potential.
- Prepare and present monthly and annual statistical and financial reports for HSSV and grant funding purposes.
- Handle all animals safely and humanely using proper restraint techniques. Demonstrate understanding of animal diseases and transmission to other animals and people.
- Monitor and maintain supply inventory for Adoptions and pet store; ensure timely ordering to maintain continuity of supply.
- Ensure all established safety procedures and protocols are followed.
- Other job duties may be assigned as needed.
Requirements
- Experience in a leadership role within customer service, managing staff and volunteers; animal welfare experience a plus. Broad understanding of animal related operations, programs, and policies.
- Proven ability to plan, lead, and execute projects successfully.
- Strongly skills in team building, problem solving, decision making, operational planning, project management, follow-up, time management, change management, conflict resolution, and leadership.
- Self-motivated with demonstrated ability to work well without close supervision and to make independent decisions.
- Ability to develop and train an effective team, while motivating staff and volunteers to achieve excellence in customer service and animal placement.
- Demonstrated effective interpersonal skills and good judgment with ability to collaborate effectively with others; excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to react well under pressure while maintaining exceptional customer service.
- Experience with the use of spreadsheets, word processing, databases, and systems such as ShelterBuddy, Vetter, etc.
- Ability to sit/stand for prolonged periods of up to 60 minutes, and to lift up to 30 pounds.
Work Days and Hours
Hours are flexible and based on organizational need. Hours may include days or evening hours, weekdays, or weekends, depending on staffing needs. This position requires rotating after-hours emergency on-call phone shifts.
