Job description

Summary: The Major Gifts and Planned Giving Officer is responsible for fostering relationships on behalf of CCYSB, discerning the philanthropic priorities of individual and corporate donors, and aligning them with the priorities and needs of the Agency. Responsible for creating and maintaining a robust portfolio of prospects at the major and principal gift levels.

Essential Functions

  • Develop and maintain a Planned Giving program to identify, educate, and solicit prospective donors on Planned Giving strategies and beneficiary designations.
  • Develop and maintain individual and corporate giving programs, sponsorships, and societies.
  • Develop and execute donor appreciation events, as well as ad-hoc prospect identification, cultivation, and stewardship events to introduce and engage prospective donors to our organization.
  • Develop personal portfolios for individual, corporate, and foundation giving to track and manage prospect interactions, solicitations, and overall strategies using the donor database.
  • Increase corporate support and partnership by networking and speaking at professional events; cultivating select corporate sponsors, securing personal visits and tours, generating new leads.
  • Attend professional and development specific trainings and conferences.
  • Ensure annual appeal mailings are developed and sent according to established timeline.
  • Work with the Executive Director, Board, and Committees to increase individual, foundation and corporate prospect pipeline and evolve the Agency’s fundraising strategy to establish long-term financial stability.
  • Identify potential major donors (individual, corporate, and foundations). Cultivate and meet prospective donors and supporters on a continual basis to establish effective communications with them.
  • Work with the Director of Fundraising and Communications Department to develop marketing materials for giving programs that provide specific options for giving.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with local service organizations, corporations, professional services (investment brokers, attorneys) to ensure a constant flow of support in the pipeline.
  • Maintain and further develop annual appeal plans.
  • Develop special appeals programs as well as sustainable annual appeals.
  • Expand and maintain corporate giving prospects and donors.
  • Steward current donors, ensuring renewal of funding and strengthening relationships.
  • Plan, manage, and implement annual giving, Major Gifts and, if applicable, capital campaign. This includes but is not limited to prospect identification and research, cultivation, solicitation, gift processing acknowledgements and stewardship.
  • Develop and manage a portfolio of prospective donors.

Knowledge and Skills Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, business or related field of study
  • At least three years of experience in Major Gifts, campaigns, or Planned Giving.
  • Successful grant writing experience
  • Strong computer skills (Word, Excel, Publisher, Power Point, InDesign and social networking)
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills, self-motivated, attention to detail, ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously and ability to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as a team member
  • Some knowledge of local, state, and national philanthropic community
  • Ability to work flexible hours as required (some evenings and weekends as needed)
  • Outstanding customer service skills
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Ability to use initiative and judgment in scope of designated responsibilities to ensure that matters requiring attention are appropriately delegated or handled
  • Ability to effectively communicate with clients, contractors, vendors, supervisors, co-workers, and other persons in writing and by telephone while remaining professional, pleasant, and respectful
  • Ability to conduct oneself as a team member through use of collegial words and actions that support co-workers and Carroll County Youth Service Bureau’s philosophy, mission and vision.

Physical Working Conditions

  • This job requires sitting for 80% of the workday; lifting/carrying/moving objects up to 10 pounds; bending or reaching to file and working while standing/moving
  • Smoke-free office and property
  • Lighted, heated/cooled area typical of an office
  • Noise from office equipment including telephone, computer, copier, etc. and from staff interactions.
  • If working off-site employee may encounter buildings in the community that may be smoke-filled and non-handicap accessible.

Training

Must participate and successfully complete a variety of training which may include Infection Control, HIPAA, Corporate Compliance/Ethics, Consumer Rights, First Aid/CPR and other training as requested.

Abides by HIPAA policies and procedures. Reports all concerns to Director of Fundraising and Communications Department.
