Executive Headquarters (117 West 124th St) $37,000 to $40,000 Position Summary: Children's Aid (CA), established in 1853, is one of New York City's leading child and family service organizations. CA is looking to hire a full-time Custodian as part of its Headquarters Operations Team. The Custodian will help the team keep the location clean, compliant, and operational.
Essential Duties: Perform routine manual tasks in maintaining the cleanliness, sanitary conditions, and appearance of buildings and grounds; Cleans bathrooms, offices, hallways, and any other assigned areas by sweeping, mopping, scrubbing and polishing; Empties and decontaminates trash containers; Disinfects high touch and common areas in accordance with OSHA, NYCDOH, and Children's Aid COVID preventive techniques; Moves, rearranges and dusts furniture and fixtures; Mixes or blends routine cleaning solutions to proper concentrations as necessary for various tasks; Operation of electrostatic fogging machine; High dusting; Assist with food drives and package/supply/furniture delivery; Cleans and waxes floors using industrial-size mops and/or machines; Strips and polishes floors using buffing machines. Shampoos carpets; Screen staff and visitors for entrance based on CA's COVID prevention processes; Washes blinds, windows, and walls consistent with CAS approved techniques; Sweeps sidewalks, porches, and tiled surfaces. Shovels snow, removes ice in front of entrance; Operates wet/dry vacuum for cleaning and shampooing carpeted areas; Maintains equipment; reports need for painting and minor building or equipment repair to supervisor; Minor repairs, bring major compliance or operational issues to the attention of the Facilities Manager; Performs custodial-related duties necessary to maintain cleanliness and sanitary conditions; Serve as a courier between CAS sites as needed.
Serve on emergency response team; Monitor supply inventory on the floor; Occasional reception duties; In-person collaboration is an essential function of the job. Perform other duties as assigned. Professional Development Participate in offered trainings, workshops, In-Service days, and/or All-Staff conferences Maintain certification requirements and proof of attendance in professional activities.
Support the growth of the center including participating in program-wide goal setting and individual and program self-assessment. Health and Safety Adhere to all state and city licensing requirements and CPR/first aid certification. Maintain a healthy and safe environment (i.e.
safely store cleaning supplies, and equipment, mark wet floors, etc.) Minimum Qualifications: High School diploma/GED preffered An additional 4 to 5 years of relevant experience may suffice in lieu of High School diploma/GED Certificates of fitness within 6 months of hire: S95 Certificate of Fitness for Supervision of Fire Alarm Systems W07 Fire and Emergency Drill Conductor Bilingual in Spanish/English preferred Valid Driver's license preferred Key Competencies: Reliable and responsive nature. Ability to follow directions and develop strong cleaning skills. Team orientated approach.
