Job description

Duties

As a Maintenance Worker, you will:

  • Perform a variety of tasks involved in the upkeep of facility, structures, fixtures, equipment, and utilities. Incumbent performs work in support of a variety of trades such as Plumber, Electrician, Carpenter, Pipefitter, etc.
  • Clean work areas, parts, equipment, and machinery using solvents and chemicals.
  • Use general tools such as rules, pliers, hammers, screwdrivers, electric saws, hacksaws.
  • Assist journeymen in the maintenance/repair of buildings and installation of equipment.
  • Work from oral instructions, blueprints, work orders and on occasion perform simple tasks and plan the work accordingly.

Physical Requirements: The work requires moderate to heavy physical exertion and involves prolonged standing, occasional crawling, bending, stooping, climbing, kneeling, and reaching. The incumbent must sometimes work in cramped and awkward position where continuous movement of hands and arms is required. The worker must frequently lift, carry, and handle tools and material weighing up to 100 pounds.

Qualifications

You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement.

You must meet the screen-out element, Ability to do the Work of the Position Without More Than Normal Supervision (Screen-out), normally addressed at the beginning of the online questions.
Minimally qualifying experience is defined as: Participation in facilities maintenance projects ensuring timely completion. Coordinating with supervisors and maintenance leads to discuss overall goals and overlapping assignments. Duties included, but were not limited to carpentry, electrical, equipment maintenance, plumbing, painting, carpeting, and masonry. All duties were performed with normal supervision.
In addition, you must also obtain an average score of two (2) for the following elements for this position as addressed through the online question in order to be considered minimally qualified. Your application will be evaluated in the following areas:

  • This is a bargaining unit position. 1594 Lodge 174 - Columbia Lodge 174, International Association of Machinists & Aerospace Workers (Non-Craft Employees)
  • The facility typically shuts down annually between Christmas and New Year's Day. As such, all BEP employees must take leave for work days during the shutdown period.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
  • A one year probationary period may be required.
  • Public Trust - Background Investigation will be required.

  • This position requires that the successful candidate undergo personnel vetting, which includes a background investigation and enrollment upon onboarding into "Continuous Vetting." The successful candidate will also be enrolled into FBI's Rap Back service, which will allow Treasury to receive notification from the FBI of criminal matters (e.g., arrests, charges, convictions) involving enrolled individuals in near real-time. Category rating will be used to rank and select eligible candidates. If qualified, you will be assigned to one of three quality level categories; Gold (highest quality category), Silver (middle quality category), or Bronze (minimally qualified category), depending on your responses to the online questions, regarding your experience, education, and training related to this position.
