The Washington University School of Medicine Operations & Facilities Management Department provides a range of services for the medical campus in a customer-focused, efficient, and sustainable manner.Operations & Facilities Management maintains 61 university buildings and provides operational, planning, and construction services to over 8.3 million gross square feet of space. We will open three new facilities between 2023 and 2025 with over 1.5M BGSF. In addition, the School of Medicine continues expanding its reach on and off campus in teaching, clinical care, and research. Our team plays a vital and important role in delivering care, research, and education.
Position acts as the principal technician in their trade for Washington University School of Medicine. This position will be responsible for being the primary technician for all critical features in the University. The technician will provide training and mentoring to all technicians in their trade. This position will be considered the subject matter expert in their field and assist in building projects as needed. This position will hold a license for their trade, if applicable.
Job Description
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Serves as Senior Tradesman for their trade directs and provides training apprentices when it applies. Provide leadership in all areas of their trade, OFMD Core Values, and customer service skills. Service Now, Workday, Box training, and guidance on ordering supplies, stocking, and cleanliness of areas.
- Provides training and education for level II and I technicians in their trade. Technicians will be proficient in all areas of their field.
- Acts as primary Facilities Engineering contact for prioritizing work and assessing conditions and services needed.
- Interfaces with customers to schedule/coordinate any interruptions in service.
- Plans and completes individual repairs/ installation of ceiling tile, lighting, electrical and plumbing systems for short range projects.
- Periodically inspects job sites to ensure services are being provided efficiently and excellently. Follows up after work is completed to ensure that proper facility conditions have been restored.
- Keeps Facilities Engineering supervisors aware of facilities conditions, problems, and needs.
- Actively promotes safety in their shop.
- Maintains effective communication with other maintenance staff.
- Assumes supervisor duties when the supervisor is out of the office.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Working Conditions
- Works inside and outside in dusty and dirty places such as pits and equipment spaces where temperatures may exceed 100 degrees and equipment may be oily and greasy.
- Exposed to wet and cold conditions, as well as noise and vibration from operation equipment.
- Must be able to work in morgues, anatomy and pathology laboratories.
- Employee may be required to work in the vicinity of labs containing bio-hazardous radioactive substances.
- Work locations will include but not be limited to patient care, office settings, stockrooms, chemical locations, research labs, animals, and magnetic locations.
- Must be able to lift and carry tools and material over 50 pounds and raise and carry items weighing 200 pounds with assistance.
- Climb, balance, stoop, kneel, and crouch to gain access to plumbing, wiring, and equipment.
- Handles a variety of hand and power tools.
- Near-visual acuity is needed to read and inspect parts. Depth perception, field of vision, and color vision are needed to fit and install parts.
Preferred Qualifications
- Excellent customer service and communications skills.
- Proficient at diagnosing/resolving maintenance problems involving lighting, plumbing, ceiling tiles, and similar issues.
- Resolves maintenance problems promptly will avoid disruption/delay in the work environment for staff or the public.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent high school certification with vocational training.
- Two years of experience in maintenance required or equivalent of two to four years related experience in skill trade functions with demonstrated ability to perform varied maintenance tasks.
Grade
G09-HSalary Range
$22.92 - $35.49 / Hourly The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.Questions
