Position Summary:
Schafer Industries is currently seeking aMaintenance Technicianfor its Schafer Gear Works operation inRoscoe, IL. This is a salary non-exempt position. Walk-In Interviews are welcome.

Job Summary:
Install, repair, and maintain a variety of machine tools, attachments, and auxiliary mechanisms. Troubleshoot and determine extent of repairs necessary. Select materials and order repair parts. Repair, refit or replace components such as spindles, bearings, ways, slides, shafts, etc.... Diagnose hydraulic and pneumatic problems, replacing or repairing components as required. Connect/disconnect air, water, and electricity to equipment. Operate various machine tools to fabricate replacement parts, such as small shafts, bushings, etc....
Essential Functions:
- Conducts Reactive Maintenance Program on machines and facilities by:
- Addressing machine stoppages due to maintenance faults as they occur
- Coordinating with outside providers to conduct repairs and maintenance on machines and facilities
- Coordinating and overseeing the riggers for machine moves
- Responsible for supporting the Schafer Business Process by:
- Maintaining the 6S program in assigned area
- Participating on continuous improvement teams and in continuous improvement meetings
- Shop support by:
- Channeling problems and/or complaints to appropriate person for resolution
- Supporting all Schafer policies and procedures
- Reporting to Supervisor when assignments cannot be completed
- Providing input and assistance with the implementation of quality improvements
- Resolving problems
- Performing other job-related duties as required
- Helping evaluate job applicant's knowledge for the cell prior to Schafer hiring
- Passing along vital information in the logbook for subsequent shifts
- Perform preventative maintenance as required and new personnel PM training of equipment
- Assist outside service repair technicians as needed
- Keep maintenance area clean and organized
- Perform monthly fire extinguisher audits
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
- Requires physical ability and stamina to perform the essential functions of the position, including the ability to walk, stand, lift, carry up to 50 pounds, push, kneel, bend, stoop, reach over and under waist level, twist for extended periods of time on cement or other hard surfaces, etc.
- Demonstrates the verbal and written communication skills necessary to complete forms and take messages in a legible, accurate manner.
- Two plus years of maintenance experience.
- Must be able to communicate in English.
- Ability to use a computer
Working Conditions:
- Air conditioned/heated manufacturing facility with possible exposure to noise; dust; fumes; physical, chemical, and biohazards; solvents, oils, and detergents.
