Job Summary:
The General Maintenance worker performs building and grounds maintenance tasks as necessary to maintain the facility and equipment in good working order.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
Performs the following duties listed and others as required to improve the maintenance of the medical care facility. This list does not include all duties required but to serve as a basis of expectations. Duties and responsibilities may be added or modified at any time.
- Performs maintenance tasks as necessary including equipment repair, carpentry, masonry, electrical, plumbing, welding, snow removal, roofing, painting, etc.
- Responsible to keep the facility clean, orderly, safe and in good working order.
- Climbing and working from ladders both inside and out.
- Works with hand tools (hammers, saws, screwdrivers, wrenches, etc.).
- Lifting and moving a variety of equipment (motors, pumps, desk, filing cabinets and other equipment as needed).
- Predicting and troubleshooting potential problems.
- Maintaining electrical and mechanical equipment throughout the facility.
- Maintaining inventory of parts and prepare supply orders to ensure adequate supply stock.
- Working Conditions:
- Nursing home setting.
- Lifting up to 100 lbs. when needed.
- Extended, unusual or mandated working hours including on-call every other weekend for emergency. When required sometimes in confined spaces and at heights from a ladder. Dirt and dust are common in mechanical rooms requiring a mask at times. Working around machinery and electricity are potential hazards.
Qualifications:
Must have a genuine interest in maintaining the facility to assure good quality of life for our residents. Ability to comprehend instructions, organize time and complete tasks with minimal supervision. Ability to adapt to frequent changes in routine. Able to do addition and subtraction. Qualification will also be determined through competency testing.
Experience: Two years experience or more in maintenance field with knowledge in electrical (110 to 440/480 three phase work), refrigeration, plumbing, construction and HVAC. Experience in masonry, drywall, painting and carpentry. Must have valid driver's license.
Education: High school graduate or equivalent. Able to read and write English. Technical school training preferred.
Physical Requirements: Must be able to lift up to 100 lbs. Ability to walk, climb stairs, push and/or pull equipment as required. Prolonged standing or walking. Bends, lifts, carries, pushes and pulls various equipment throughout the work day. This position requires the ability to perform the essential functions described.
