This position requires some office and computer work but most often requires field work under adverse weather and environmental conditions that may include:
- Temperature extremes, snow and rain, dust and mosquito infested areas.
- Confined areas, sometimes for extended periods, including attics, cellars, and excavated areas.
- Wastewater and sewage disposal systems with potential for contact with disease, virus, and bacteria.
o Areas frequented by rodents with the potential for contact with disease such as Hantavirus.
- Hazardous chemicals, including various pesticides, solvents, paints, and fuels. Exposed to welding fumes.
- 110 and 220-volt electrical systems and in close proximity to buried and overhead power lines.
- Heights, including roofs and scaffolding.
- Frequent exertion, often for extended periods, including lifting, carrying, digging, and pounding.
Work shift is primarily daytime Monday through Friday, but some evening, weekend, and holiday work may be required.

Charlo, MT, is an unincorporated community of about 300 people, located in the heart of the Mission Valley in Lake County in Northwest Montana. Charlo is midway between Kalispell and Missoula which provide quality shopping, dining, fine arts, and entertainment as well as a variety of outdoor activities. Nearby attractions include Flathead Lake, Glacier National Park, Mission Mountains, Quinn's Hot Springs, Whitefish Mountain Resort, and Blacktail Mountain Ski Resort. Other cities and towns within½ hour drive from Charlo include Polson, Pablo, Ronan, and Saint Ignatius.
JobDuties (narrative summary): The Maintenance Team Supervisor is part of the Parks and Outdoor Recreation Division and a member of the regional Maintenance Team. The position reports to the Regional Maintenance Manager and provides assistance to the regional maintenance program for fishing access sites, wildlife management areas, state parks, and administrative facilities. In coordination with the Regional Maintenance Manager, Stewardship Bureau Chief, and regional staff, the position directly and through subordinates identifies maintenance needs, establishes work flows for regular or routine tasks, and assists in establishing priorities for major maintenance projects. The position oversees and participates in personnel management of maintenance staff, including Maintenance Workers 1 & 2 and Groundskeepers, in an assigned geographic area and performs and oversees recordkeeping of maintenance activities, including daily maintenance logs, to inform the maintenance proprietary account. The Maintenance Team Supervisor may be ,assigned to multiple geographic units or be called upon to assist with, collaborate on, or share maintenance functions of another geographic unit as circumstances require.
Effective communication and relationship building is an important component of this position to ensure maintenance needs are addressed for all department sites and facilities in an efficient and cost-effective manner.
The Maintenance Team Supervisor is responsible for conducting, coordinating, overseeing and inspecting work performed; maintaining, repairing and constructing buildings and facilities; and maintaining grounds in order to provide safe and enjoyable recreational opportunities to the public, and managing equipment fleets in a proactive sustainable manner. Maintenance oversight responsibilities include: habitat maintenance such as habitat restoration, food plot/cover crop planting, tree planting, range management, weed control, managing large scale irrigation systems and waterfowl/upland bird nesting habitat; public drinking water distribution systems; waste water systems; HVAC systems; vault latrine and full service flush toilet and hot water shower facilities; public visitor centers with exhibits including audio visual systems and specialty lighting; building security and fire protection systems; historic sites and structures; landscaped areas with irrigation systems; campgrounds with electrical distribution systems; picnic shelters; boat docks and ramps; solid rail and wire fences; paved and gravel roadways and parking areas; paved and aggregate surfaced trails; boardwalks; directional, information and interpretive signs, kiosks; maintenance shop facilities and other associated infrastructure.
Employee may act as Regional Maintenance Manager as needed and regularly demonstrates independent decision-making and problem solving. Regional and site-specific variance may exist, and other duties may be assigned.
MinimumQualifications(EducationandExperience):
The knowledge, skills, and abilities of this position are normally attained through a combination of education and experience equivalent to a 2-year degree/training in maintenance, Industrial Arts, Natural Resource Management, Engineering Technology, Mechanics, Land Management, or a related field and/or at least 5 years of general facilities maintenance, construction, repair work, or work in a similar field. Other combinations of education and experience will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
- Class 4 AB State of Montana Certification for water and waste-water operators, Basic First Aid/CPR certification, Government Pesticide Applicator's license may be required on the job and maintained through continuing education and re-certification testing.
- This position may require a Montana Commercial Drivers License Type 2 Class B and the ability to safely and effectively drive and operate combination vehicles over 26,000 lbs G.V.W. This license also requires a pre-employment drug and alcohol test and then random drug testing to maintain the CDL.
