The Role


What’s the job?

The Planner/Supervisor is responsible for the planning and scheduling of all maintenance work for the department. In addition, they will supervise daily activities of the maintenance personnel and assist with maintenance project work as needed. This position provides key leadership in safety, quality, housekeeping, and cost reduction while promoting positive employee relations throughout the maintenance organization.

  • The Planner reviews all work notifications and appropriately categorizes and takes action per the corresponding work flow:
    • Assures that work requested is needed and correctly coded in SAP
    • Confirms scope of work clearly described - consults with Requestor, Maintenance Supervisors, or Technicians when necessary
    • Checks that the priority and requested completion date are realistic and consider practical lead-times for parts and labor
  • Fully scopes and plans for corrective jobs
    • Examines jobs to be done and determines best way to accomplish the work
    • Creates job packs for any detailed repairs, including photos, additional sketches, diagrams, etc., necessary to clarify the intent of the Work Order
    • Estimates jobs showing sequence of steps, the number of tradespersons, and required labor hours for each step. Lists determinable materials and any special tools or equipment needed
  • Obtains blueprints, drawings, instructional manuals, and special procedures, as needed
  • Leads parts inventory management and organization strategy
    • Verifies the availability of parts, materials, and special tools required for every Work Order
    • Coordinates kitting of parts for upcoming jobs to be performed
    • As needed, assists with building and updating equipment Bill of Materials
  • Supports Reliability function through Preventive Maintenance program implementation
    • Prints job packs for all Preventative Maintenance Work Orders, including required forms and additional references as needed
    • Generates detailed task lists and PM plans in SAP in accordance with best practices and manufacturers recommendations; Able to analyze effectiveness of PMs and updates as needed
    • Recommends equipment to be included in Preventive Maintenance programs
  • Maintains necessary records for all PMs and completed job packs; Prepares and distributes meaningful and accurate reports
  • Manages Notification and Work Order backlogs in SAP within target ranges
  • Develops a weekly maintenance work schedule for planned down days and operating weeks in a manner that will ensure efficient operation of equipment; Manages full schedule for extended outages
  • Is the principal contact and liaison between the Maintenance department and all other plant departments served by Maintenance and ensures that they receive prompt, efficient and quality service; Holds weekly meetings to communicate job priorities and forecasted shutdown schedules
  • Effectively manages contract personnel as needed for increased or specific maintenance requirements
  • Participates in root-cause analyses
  • Directly supervises the hourly skilled maintenance employees in the improvement and maintenance of plant equipment, buildings, machinery, and utilities as required
  • Helps develop and maintain standard operating and maintenance procedures
  • As needed, communicates expectations, provides coaching and development opportunities
  • Keeps the Maintenance Manager properly informed on all abnormal or critical situations
  • Performs other tasks and special assignments as requested by the Maintenance Manager


Requirements


What do you bring?

  • Minimum of 2 year degree in Technical Field (equivalent experience may be considered)
  • 4 year college degree in Engineering, Business Management, or Trade Qualification preferred
  • 5+ years hands-on experience of increasing responsibility in a manufacturing or industrial environment
  • 2+ years of supervisory experience preferred
  • Experience associated with maintenance and spare parts inventory
  • Skills in equipment troubleshooting and fault analysis/root cause
  • Good written and verbal communication skills, ability to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization
  • Proficient in use of MS Office and Windows platforms
  • Prior experience using a Computerized Maintenance Management System (SAP is a plus)
  • Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing, TPM, 5S & continuous improvement
