About the Role
The Maintenance Managerleads the maintenance, service and repair of containers and container handling equipment for MTI at Sand Island and the Neighbor Island ports. Ensures equipment availability meets the needs of operating departments. Effectively plans and directs to control labor costs while maintaining good labor relations, safety, and morale of personnel.
What you'll do:
- Manage the quality of Matson's containers and container handling equipment (including neighbor island locations) condition, maintenance, service, repair and renovation to ensure these items are maintained in accordance with established Company, industry, and manufacturer standards.
- Communicate and coordinate effectively with other operating departments to ensure prompt service to meet operational requirements. Lead and direct the allocation of labor and materials to support operational requirements and terminal goals. Ensure equipment is available and in good working order.
- Directly lead senior supervisors, supervisors, and maintenance mechanics. Manage and direct fair and impartial work assignments and work schedules to ensure compliance with Company policy and to maintain morale of personnel. Prepare annual performance appraisal evaluations. Make promotional and disciplinary recommendations as required.
- Understand and administer the Local 142 container equipment maintenance (CEM), Local 100 supervisor, and CBU 4208 collective bargaining agreements. Adjust grievances and resolve disputes.
- Act independently to provide consistent, fair, and impartial disciplinary action.
- Prepare, track, and analyze Operating and G&A budgets and provides financial review for variances. Maintain an efficient and productive operation with particular attention to meeting the fiscal year operating goals. Create CERs with justification for new and replacement equipment.
- Continuously oversee and monitor terminal work areas to ensure compliance with Company, State and Federal safety regulations to maintain a safe working environment. In coordination with the Manager Safety and Workers Compensation, respond pro-actively to accident and damage reports to recommend changes or enforce procedures as needed.
- Responsible for the MTI F&M storeroom function. Ensure that inventory controls are established and maintained to meet Company goals and objectives.
- Prepare and administer approved maintenance operating standards, and Operating and General and Administrative budgets in a manner that will ensure meeting the Company's goals and profitability objectives.
- Special projects as assigned by the Vice President - MTI Operations.

- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and internal computer operating systems and applications.
- Working knowledge and experience with mechanical, electrical, electronic control, civil, structural and refrigeration technologies and systems.
- Experience operating and maintaining various types of container handling equipment and container equipment in a marine terminal or similar environment.
- Prior quality control experience.
And these qualifications:
- College degree or equivalent experience. Bachelor's degree highly preferred.
- Five (5) to ten (10) years of experience in the maritime, transportation, or equivalent industry.
- Minimum five (5) years of successful supervisory experience, directing, training, developing and motivating workforces.
- Must have and maintain a valid driver's license.
- Must have or be able to obtain and maintain a TWIC card.
- Ability to travel for meetings on Neighbor Islands and the Mainland.
- Must be available 24/7.
Extra credit if you have:

Work Environment
- The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
The annual salary range for this position in Hawaii is $114,800 - $166,640. The salary offered will depend upon qualifications and other operational considerations.
