Job description

Title: Maintenance IV - Plumber
Reports To: Maintenance Supervisor- Plumbing/HVAC
Position Purpose: To keep the District's facilities maintained and operational so that they present no problems or interruptions to the education program.
Qualifications:
1. High school graduate or equivalent.
2. Successful completion of a course of study in plumbing from a high school, trade, or technical school.
3. Valid Kansas plumbing journeyman's certificate of competency and a minimum of ten years experience in a commercial, industrial, or facilities operation setting. Any equivalent experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities will be taken under consideration.
4. Backflow Prevention Certification required or must be obtained within two years of employment.
5. Experience and training in plumbing, lawn and irrigation, pumps, steam traps, boiler repair, food service equipment repair, etc. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as determined to be appropriate and acceptable.
6. Knowledge of steam, water, and natural gas distribution systems maintenance and repair. 7. Knowledge of standard practices, tools, and terminology in plumbing, refrigeration, air conditioning, heating, electronics, and other assigned skill areas.
8. Knowledge of plumbing codes, environmental protection requirements, and OSHA regulations.
9. Ability to work from blueprints, sketches, written and verbal instruction, and to understand the technical language within the assigned skill areas.
10. Ability to design or modify components to meet job requirements in the assigned skill areas.
11. Must have a valid Kansas driver license and possess a good driving record.
12. Ability to work in varied weather and temperature conditions.
13. Ability to work from heights and. in confined areas.
14. Knowledge of colors.
15. Ability to perform work independently according to prescribed standards and procedures with a minimum of supervision.
16. Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
17. Dependability and the ability to get along with others.
18. Knowledge of occupational hazards, safety precautions, hazardous materials, and proper ways necessary to perform the assigned tasks.
Physical/Emotional Requirements:
1. The incumbent may be required to use the below requirements during any part of the working day.
2. The incumbent must be able to lift and carry up to 100 pounds.
3. Ability to work from a ladder.
4. Speaking, reading, hearing, manual dexterity.
5. Standing, sitting, bending, stooping, walking.
6. Reaching, pushing, pulling, climbing, driving.
Performance Responsibilities:
. Reports to the Maintenance Supervisor- Plumbing/HVAC to receive each day's assignments. 2. Respond to work requests in a timely and courteous manner.
3. Perform maintenance and repair tasks in accordance with appropriate standards and procedures.
4. Coordinate, execute, install, repair, service, and maintain various types of plumbing equipment (Faucets, lavatories, toilets, urinals, flush valves, sinks, water heaters, drinking fountains, garbage disposals, backflow devices, valves, hose bibs, drains, and water meters), piping, domestic water systems, sewer systems, mechanical systems, and related devices.
5. Assist with a variety of work assignments including such things as general plumbing, component repair and replacement, pipe fitting, machine repair, repair and replace hot water tanks, remodeling bathrooms, repair and replacement of sprinkler systems, roof drains, sewer traps, etc.
6. Repair or replace domestic hot and cold water lines, domestic recirculation lines, and sewer lines.
7. Repair and replace steam to hot water exchangers for major building heating systems and pools.
8. Repair and replace pneumatic steam valves, radiator valves, traps, and condensate pipes. 9. Repair and replace domestic hot water heat pumps, chilled water pumps, sump pumps, and sewage pumps.
10. Install, test, and repair all sizes of backflow prevention devices.
11. Maintain and repair all natural gas services including valves.
12. Fill pipes or plumbing fixtures with water or air and observe pressure gauges to detect and locate leaks.
13. Measure, cut, thread, and bend pipe to required angle, using hand and power tools or machines such as pipe cutters, pipe-threading machines, and pipe-bending machines.
14. Winterize equipment, facilities, etc. as necessary throughout District.
15. Replace and repair defective pumps, fans, capacitors, leaking lines, etc.
16. Repair and maintain boilers and air conditioning equipment.
17. Select type and size of pipe required for particular job, locate and mark positions for connections and fixtures, and install supports and hangers for pipe, fixtures, and equipment. 18. Assist with development and carry out preventative maintenance program and inspections including, but not limited to, domestic water systems and sanitary waste drainage.
19. Respond as necessary to emergency plumbing calls such as clogged drains, broken water lines, frozen pipes, gas odors, and possible leaks. Evaluate situation and take proper corrective action.
20. Follow the District's system for the receipt and issuance of parts and supplies as well as maintaining recordkeeping and inventories.
21. Attend appropriate training sessions, meetings, and classes as part of professional development.
22. Accomplish assigned tasks in a safe and efficient manner.
23. Operate and care for equipment used in daily work assignments.
24. Maintain accurate and complete time sheets.
25. Assist other maintenance areas with work requests as assigned.
26. Occasionally operate medium and heavy equipment in course of day-to-day work assignments.
27. Assist with snow removal as necessary including operating snow plows, tractors, etc.
28. Demonstrate professional image through appearance, language, and work ethic.
29. Perform other duties as assigned.
Term of Employment: Evaluation: Twelve (12) months
Significant Associations:
Performance of this position will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the board policy on evaluation of Classified Personnel. The performance responsibilities are not limited to those outlined in this description and may include any other responsibilities as assigned by the administrator/supervisor.
